Heppner Gazette Times, February 10, 1944 3 Co-Op and Erosion Groups Hold Joint Meeting Monday Irrigon News Notes BOARDMAN NEWS By Mrs. Ruth McMillan Lexington Oil Co-operative held its annual meeting Monday in the Lexington grange hall in conjunc tion with the Heppner Soil Conser vation district. An interesting program was pre sented the main feature being the two reels of film that were rum by Ed Williams, service manager Paci fic Supply company, covering the activities of the northwest coopera tives. Chas. Poole, sales manager of Pacific Supply co-operative spoke as did Stephen Thompson on raising funds for a memorial to the late Professor Hyslop. The members of the Co-op voted to raise additional capital to enable them to stock up on farm machin ery. Joe Belanger, crop specialist of Pendleton and E. R. Jackman, extension specialist from CorvaUis were present. Kenneth Smouse and Fred Nel son were elected soil erosion con servation directors. Clyde Denney and Lee Beckner were oil coop directors. The Home Ec club of the grange served a bounteous dinner. The ladies aid resumed their reg ular schedule Wednesday after having been discontinued during the holidays. Mrs. Rudolph Kliinger sprained lier foot quite badly last week but is now greatly improved. Her daugh ter Doris who was called here to sare for her has returned to her work at Ordnance.' Mrs. Otto Ruhl and Mrs . Elmer Hunt left for Portland Wednesday night They were taken as far as Arlington by Elmer Hunt. Miss Dorothy Marsholl returned to her home, at Bend Saturday after visiting this week with her brother and sister-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Marshall. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Wallace and son returned Sunday from Hubbard having driven down to get their father Sam Wallace who will visit a month here t W. C. Mr. and Mrs. Merritt Gray and sons visited over the week-end at By MBS. J. A. SHOTTN Mrs. Tom Caldwell fell and broke some ribs Tuesday. Mr and Mrs Vernon Caldwell came up from Portland Thursday and took her to Hermston where she stayed until Friday. She and Mr Caldwell have have both been quite ill with the flu. C W Grim started work as a guard on the Umatilla railroad bridge Thursday night Milo McFarland was an Irrigon visitor Friday. Grandma Graybeal is quite ill at her home in Irrigon. Vallas Dexter of La Grande en listed in the army and will enter Feb 10. He is coming to Irrigon be fore leaving. He finished high school here. His wife and son will remain in La Grande. Mrs. C W Acock and son Char les Jr were Friday visitors in Her miston. Wilmar Moore and Dave Loder quist left for The Dalles Saturday. Mrs Florence Grider and son Ma rion were Sunday visitors at the Henry Miller home. The Irrigon community has been having some good rains. Frank Baumgardner and son of Dayton were Irrigon visitors Sun day. Mrs Lester Sites and Mr and Mrs Don Kenny were Pendleton visitors Monday. Mr and Mrs W C Isom are living in their new home west of town. The E R Schneiders attended the Fellowship meeting in lone Wed nesday, i Avery Shoun arrived home Mon day morning 'from Mountain City, Tenn. whene he visited a host of relatives and friends.. He found ev erything very much changed in the 46 years since he had left there. Seven Couples, the Minnicks, Houghtons, Hills, Glascows, Wil sons, E. Isoms, Dave Steagalls and Luella Minnick spent an enjoyable evening at the Henry Millers Sun day evening playing pinochle. Mr and Mrs Lee Somalish spent Sunday with the W M Wilsons. Mrs Birdie Stewart is visiting her mother, Mrs R M McCoy. the Gene Gray home in Stanfield. Mrs. Dan Way left Tuesday for St. Martin' Springs Wash, to join her husband who has been taking treatments there for the past two weeks. Mrs. Lou Bradley is preparing th school hot lunches in the absence of Mrs. Dan Way. La Verne Zutz visited at the C C. Carmichael home Sunday on his way from Ontario to Portland. By BUBGABET THORPE Lawrence Tyler was operated on last Tuesday morning at Pendleton for a hernia. He is improving ra pidly. Albert Partow has been, home this week on boot leave. Election of a school board mem ber to replace Mr. Ely who resign ed was held Thursday night. A. Hug was elected to take the place. Allen Billings left Wednesday for his army camp in Florida after vis iting two weeks with his wife Mrs. Zoe Billings. She resumed teach ing Thursday morning. Mrs. Harry Thorpe substituted during her ab sence. Frances Skoubo spent the week end at home. Mrs. R. M. Brandhagen of Tigard visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Daniels this week. Mrs. Brandhagen is Mr. Daniels' sister. Mrs. Francis Harter entertained the teachers of the local school and Mr and Mrs. Lynn Sunday night. MV . Lynn is superintendent at Irrigon. Mr. and Mrs. R Black spent Sat urday in Pendleton shopping Mrs. Marlow is confined ta her bed with the flit She is staying with Mrs. Ransier. Chas. Anderegg went to Fossil with a load of potatoes Tuesday. The Boardman basketbal team played at Irrigon. Boardman won the game with a score of 30 to 19.
