Initiation in the third and fourth
degrees was put on at the Grange
hall Tuesday night Jack Meinen
"was elected to the executive com
mittee to fill in after the resigna
tion of Clyde Tannehill and Mrs.
George was elected Lecturer to fill
the vacancy caused by the resigna
tion of Mrs. Black.
EEC. met at the home of Doris
Lilly Wednesday with a pot luck
dinner. A card party was planned
for Dec. 29 at the grange halL
Mrs. Charles Anderegg and dau
gher Barbara returned the first of
the week from Everett Wash, where
they spent a week visiting with
their son and brother, Robert Gar
vison. They also spent a week in
Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Brown
and Reo went with them and spent
the time visiting at Silvertton and
Portland.
" P.T.A. met Thursday night at the
school auditorium with a small
crowd attending. The topic of dis
cussion was developing the person
ality of the child. The discussion
was prepared by Mrs. Harry Thorpe.
Francis Harter and Mrs. Clarence
Nelson. The program prepared by
Mrs. Nathan Thorps insisted al
reading by Harry Thorpe, a panto
mime by Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Tan
nehill, song by a mixed quartet, and
a skit called "Practice Hour" with
W. A. Baker and Miss Ellen Et
bauer, and a reading by Mrs. Fish
er called: "The Vitamin Story."
George Daniel spent the week
end in Portland on business.
A number of ladies surprised
Mrs. Margaret Klitz with a hand
kerchief shower at her home last
Thursday. The afternoon was spent
working jig saw puzzles.
The show was held in the grange
hall Saturday night for the first
time since remodeling commenced.
This made a great improvement in
the sound. The next show is Fri
day night starring Jack Benny and
Rochester in "Buck Benny rides
again."
The superintendents of the coun
ty met at Boardman Friday. The
Home Ec girls served lunch.
Clyde Tannehill went to Heppner
Monday to serve on the jury. Leo
Root carried the mail during his
absence.
Boardman Yellowjackets were
defeated at Umatilla Friday night
with a score of 32-44.
visited Mary Allen from Thursday
to Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Potts of Pros
per were Irrigon visitors Friday.
Sinice Moore caught his fifth co
yote Friday in one day over a
week.
Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Schneider and
daughter Loraine, Mrs. Tom Cald
well and Mrs. Emma Stewart at
tended the fellowship meeting at
Heppner Wednesday at the Pente
costal church there.
Dan Hill's litttle daughter was
taken to the Pendleton hospital
Tuesday where she Was operated
for appendicitis as soon as she got
there. She has been doing well
since and her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Dan Hill brought her home Sunday.
Mrs. Tom Caldwell came near
having a serious fire Tuesday morn
ing. Mr. Caldwell had cleaned the oi,
stove and filled it but failed to turn
it off so the oil ran over the floor.
When she " lit the stove the fire
spread. She rushed out and called
the neighbors who ran in to help
her. One threw a heavy blanket
over the stove and smothered the
firev The smoke nearljy irulined
everything.
Mrs. June Cox and son Jimmie
left for Pendleton Wednesday en
routa home to Long Creek.
Mr. and Mrs. Bert Dexter and
Mrs. Dan Hill were Pendleton
visitors Wednesday going to see
Vida Mae Hill who is in the hos
pital therq.
The Echo basketball team lost
to the Irrigon team here 22 to 18.
The Echo B team won 14 to 11.
Mr. and Mrs. John Voile and
daughter Juanita went to Her
miston Tuesday. They are fixing
up the Larson house so they can
move into it. They bought it last
summer.
Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Shoun and
Judy were Pendleton visitors last
Thursday.
Earl Connel was called to Hepp
ner to report to the army Mon
day. Sgt Wilmer Moore arrived in
Irrigon Saturday to visit his bro
ther Sinice Moore and family. He
spent some time in a hospital , in
Tennessee after returning from
active service in Africa. The two
brothers left Monday for Port
land on business.
Mike Hinchley's mother arrived
home from Utah Monday where
she spent a few weeks.

ing injured.

Joe Snyder left Sunday for Sac
ramento, Calif., where he was
called on account of the illness of
his sister, Mrs. Bell Broker. Mrs.
Broker visited in Heppner about
10 years ago.
Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Van Schoiack
were called to Portland Saturday by
the serious illness of Mr. Van
Schoiack's mother. In their absence,
Roscoe Cox is assisting Sydney and
Robert at the ranch.
