Coming as a complete surprise
to their many friends here was the
wedding on Oct. 31 in Hutchinson,
Kan. of TSgt Sam' G. McMillan,
United States . army at Chandler
Field, Ariz., son of Mr. and Mrs.
S. G. McMillan of Lexington, and
Miss Anabel Strodtman, daughter
of Mr and Mrs. S. S. Strodtman of
Emporia, Kan., formerly of Hep
pner. Both the bride and groom
were graduated from Lexington
high school.
Mr. and Mrs. Delvin McDaniel
and Miss Jean Leathers, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Leathers of
Portland are visiting at the Dallas
McDaniel home.
Jay Totterdell, apprentice sea
man at Farragut naval training
station is spending his leave with
his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs.
Frank Papineau.
Mrs. Cliff Doherty returned to
her home Thursday after undergo
ing an operation in The Dalles
recently.
Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Gibson
and daughter Georgia of Hermis
ton spent Armistice day with Mrs.
Gibson's parents. Mr', and Mrs.
Charles Breshears.
Mrs. Vernon Christopherson is
visiting ait the !Ralph Ledibetter
home this week.
Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Hunt son
Claire and daughter Louise, spent
several days in Portland this week.
They were- accompanied by Mrs.
Charles Marquardt and daughter
Majo.
Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Jones and
daughter Charlene of Meacliaim are
visiting this week with Mrs. Jones'
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Te Mc
Millan.
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Johnson of
Pendleton and son Pvt Duane
Johnson on furlough from his sta
tion in Nashville, Tenn. are visit
ing with relatives and friends this
week.
John Wrenn of Asotin Wash,
spent the week-end with his bro
ther and sister-in-law. Mr. and
Mrs. James Wrenn. Mr. Wrenn
left for Portland Tuesday to visit
his sister, Mrs. Etta Hunt.
Mrs. Clarence Hayes and daugh
ter Janis, left Tuesday with Mr.
and Mrs. Glenn Hayes of Heppner
for Santa Barbara Calif, to visit
her husband, Sgt. Hayes before his
departure over seas.
E. B. Jensen, principal of Lex
ington school, attended the princi
als' conference in Salem last week.
Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Nelson, Jr.
returned from Portland Monday
evening. They report that their fa
ther is up and around after a short
illness.
RUSSELL HOME BURNS
Mrs. Kate Russell of Condon lost
her home and practically all pf the
contents in a fire Sunday night
which was started by a short cir
cuit in the Delco lighting system.
Mrs. Russell managed to save val
uable papers and received minor
burns about the face while doing
this. She had just recovered from
an illness and had been home
about a week. The house had been
her home for 44 years. Her son Ed
was on their other ranch at the
time of the fire.

Annual meetings of county jud
ges, commissioners and clerks are
being held in Portland this week.
Judge Bert Johnson, Commissioner
L. Dl Neill, accompanied by Mrs
Neill, and County Clerk C. W. Bar
low are in attendance from Morrow
county.
INDUCTION ORDERED
Donald Butcher heceived hia in
duction orders early in the month
to report to San Francisco. He
drove down and was accompanied
that far by Mr. and Mrs. Henry
Baker who went on to Los Angeles
to visit their son and wife and the
new grandson. The Bakerg return
ed this week.
