Black Market to
Be Combatted
Black market operations in Mor
row county, if such there are, will,
be combatted through the efforts
of the American Legion auxiliary,
according to a statement released
this week. The auxiliary is prepar
ing to launch a program which will
include a thorough canva?lp of the
homes of the county in an effort
to check the growing tendency to
ward inflation and to guarantee an
equitable distribution of necessities.
For this program pledge sjheets
and window stickers will be disi
tributed by the auxiliary, the for
mer to be filled out and filed with
the war price and rationing board,
the latter to be displayed in the
home. The pledge sheet says: To
do my part on the home front; to
help distribute rationed goodaj fair
ly; to help hold down the cost of
living; to help eliminate black mar
kets; to bring violations to the at
tention of my war price and ra
tioning board I make the follow
ing pledge:
I will pay no more than top legal
prices.
I will accept no rationed goods
without giving up ration sjtamps.
The sticker says "I pay no more
than top legal prices" and I ac
cept no rationed goods without giv
ing up ration stamps."
A pamphlet accompanying the
pledge says in part: "Your ration
stamps are used only for those
foodsj which are scarce. With them
you get a fair share of those foods.
If you aJk for more than your
stamps allow, you cheat your neigh
bor. If your dealer suggests that
you buy more than your stamps
allow you can be sure that he is,
a black market operator."
