Let Your Heart Decide
Let your heart decide is the theme of the pre
sent campaign to raise money for the National
War Chest, Inc. If you can not make up your mind
what to give to these worthy causes, perhaps you
can make your task easier by leaving the decision
to your heart. That will not necessarily make your
decision a matter of sentiment but it will turn
your effort in the right direction.
If your mind cannot visualize the suffering
among the war torn peoples of Europe and Asia
the starving populace of Greece, the long suffer
ing Chinese, the downtrodden Poles and the out
cast Jews then let your heart guide you in reach
ing plenty deep into your pocket to not only bring
immediate relief to these people but to help re
habilitate them for carrying on the struggle against
their oppressors and reestablishing themselves
for the days of peace.
Morrow county has a proud record of achieve
ment in all matters pertaining to the war. We have
yet to fall down on any task imposed, but there is
evidence that we are slipping in the present cam
paign. The drive should have been cleaned up by
this time, November 1 at the latest. As things
stand now, it will require several more weeks and
much personal canvassing to reach the goal. It
will be another feather in our cap if we show our
boys in uniform that we are mindful of their wel
fare as well as the people for whom they are of
fering their lives to liberate. We have suffered
nothing more than some slight inconveniences.
Those for whom the funds are asked have lost ev
erything their liberty'most of all. Can we go on
enjoying the' good things of life knowing what
others are enduring without feeling a sense of
guilt that we are not doing our share in this ti
tanic struggle.
O
Don't We Know!
The typographical error is a slippery thing and
sly; you can hunt it till you're dizzy, but it some
how gets by. Till the forms are off the presses it
is strange how still it keeps; it shrinks down in a
corner, and it never stirs or peeps. That typograph
ical error, too small for human eyes, till the ink
is on the paper, when it grows to mountain size.
The boss, he stares in horror, then he grabs his
hair and groans; the copyreader drops his head
upon his hands and moans. The remainder of the
issue may be clean as clean can be, but the type
graphical error is the only thing you see! Contributed.

The stepping stones to success can be dug out
of the business quarry only with work and lots
of if.
Men have done wonders without hands, without
feet, without eyes but without brains they are
helpless.
. Maybe the fellow who said originally that
people are just like sheep meant that somebody
shears both regularly.

"Keeping store," Sam A.ber
nethy says, "can teach a person
plenty about human nature.
"Now coffee rationing's lifted,
folks ain't a-breakin' their necks
tryin' to buy all they c: now
in' they can have it it ti..v want
it, they ain't so all-fired anxious
to get it."
Sam's right, as usual. I don't
crave that second cup half as
much as when I couldn't get it
But that's human nature . . .
Like allowing moderate beer in
the Army's post exchanges. In
stead of leading to more drink
ing, the OWI report says it
works out just the opposite
often as not the men choose
soda-pop or milk, with beer right
there and no restrictions on it.
But if it wasn't there, like in
the last War, the story might
be altogether different.
From where I sit, that's horar
it is with Americans. Tell 'em
they can't have a thing and by
golly, they'll find ways to get it.
But admit their right to have it,
and their own good sense will
lead to moderation.
