IONE NEWS NOTES

Mr. and Mrs. John PuHis of
Stanton, N. D., are visiting at the
home of their daughter, Mrs. Lloyd
Rice.
Mrs. Carl Calins of Hillsboro and
Mrs. Carl Calandra and son Don
ny of Portland are guests at the
home of their mother, Mrs. Ida
Fletcher.
Mrs. Minnie Farrens was taken
to The Dalles hospital last week for
a few days treatment. She returned
home Friday. Her daughter and
son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Van
Dusen of San Francisco, have been
with her.
Miss Gladys Brashears returned
to Portland Fiiday after spending
several days viiting her parents,
Mr. and Mrs Dale Ray.
Mr. and Mrs. John Turner of Ba
ker were in lone last week visiting
trelntives and friends. Mr:,. Turner
is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Frank Englcmsn.
Mi?? Rose Gorger is spending a
month's vacation at the home of
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry
Goirger following the completion of
a nurse's training course at the St
Vincent's college of nursing. On her
return, to Portland she plans to en
ter the nurses' reserve corps.
Mr .and Mrs. Robert McCabe and
son Jacky of Forest Grove have
been spending a two weeks vacation
from, the shipyards helping with
' the harvesting on the A. A- McCabe
ranch. They have returned to their
home this week.
Mrs. A. T. Coleman accompanied
by her daughter Gwendolin left for
a trip to Portland Friday.
Riley Munkers has received a
discharge rfom the army to assist
his father with the ranch work.
His father. Harry Munkers, had
been in poor health for some time.
Word was received that Walter
Corley has received a medical dis
charge from the army due to an old
foot injury.
Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Turner of
Portland and daughter have moved
into the Ted Blake house tempor
arily. Mr .and Mrs. Ray Barnett gave a
dinner at their home MJonday eve
ning Aug, 9 in honor of their son
Jimmy's 18th birthday. Those pres
ent were Mr. and Mrs. John H.
Fuiten and son Wayne and Robert
and Ralph Taylor, all of Heppner,
Miss Mary Jean Bristow, Alton
Yarncll, Ernest McCabe, Orval Bu
chanan, Dubert Wilson, Rev. Otto
Olson and Mary, JoeL Paul and
Sammy Barnett.
S- Sgt. James McCoy from Camp
Blight, Calif., is a guest at the
Charles Tullis Jr. ranch.
Mrs. Franklin Lindstrom and Mrs.
Cliffod McCabe left for Portland
Monday evening. Their brother,
Fred Ritchie, was expected to
reach Portland Wednesday by plane
from Panama canal. They were
called to Portland by the serious
illness of their step-father, Clyde
Stewart.
Mrs. John Voohees, (Ruth Craw
ford) of Walla Walla is visiting rel
atives and frineds in lone.
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Helikor
were called to The Dalles by the
death of Mrs. Heliker's grandmoth
er, Mrs. Roberts who passed away
Saturday evening.
The II. E. club cf the Willows
grange will meet at the hall Friday,
Aug. 20 with a pot luck dinner at
noon.
The Past Noble Grand club will
mett at the home of Mrs. Mary
Swanson Friday Aug. 27.
NATIVE OF HEPPNER
PASSES IN PORTLAND
Mr. and Mrs. Glen Hayes drove
to Portland Wednesay evening of
last week,' called there by the
death of Mrs. Hayes' sister, Mrs.,
Lillie Hansen. Services were held
et 2:30 p. m. Friday in the Draw
ing Room chapel of Holman & Lutz,
Dr. Harold W- Jefferies officiating.
Mrs. Hansen, who will be remem
bered by older residents as Lillie
Driseoll, was born in Heppner and
attended the local schools. She had
made her home in Portland for
many years. She was aged 56 years,
11 months and 29 days.
Surviving are four children one
son in the armed forces who could
not attend the funeral; two sisters,
Mrs. Elsie Stevenson of Portland
and Mrs. Glen Hayes of Heppner;
four brothers, Thomas C. and Her
bert H. Driseoll of Portland. Will
iam M. Driseoll of Pendleton and
George Driseoll of Unity.
CALLED TO KLAMATH FALLS
Mrs. Ross Draper went to Kla
math Falls Saturday, called there
by the serious illness of a friend,
Judge Martin Ramsby. Her sister,
Mrs. R. C Lawrene, took her to
Pendleton to catch a plane sent
from Klamath Falls to take her
south. Judge Ramsby suffered a
stroke and Mrs. Draper will nurse
him.

Neal Knighten of Hardman and
Erma Scott of Wasco, niece of Mrs.
Knighten. drove to Portland Tues
day. Erma ' discarded her "roller
cage" the first of the week and
when in town Monday was getting
around the street with the aid of
crutches.
VISIT PENDLETON
Mrs- Lois Massey and Kingsley
Chapin were Pendleton visitors
Monday afternoon. Kiingsley was
fitted for glasses while in the neigh
boring city.
