Election day is not far off, yet so far there has not been enough interest dis played to lead one to believe that there is a campaign in progress. This con dition may be excusable, due to the many activities arising from the war, '-ut it is time we awakened to the fact lat there is an election in the offing id prepare to do something about it. Now as never before it is important that capable officials be elected, men or women believing in the principles of democracy and possessing vision to look ahead not only to the. proper pro secution of the war but to the future of the country when peace comes, and .having the courage to back up their convictions. If we sit idly by and let the other fellW do the selecting we are very apt to get the wrong people into office. It is up to each individual voter to exercise his franchise by going the polls and voting for candidates id measures he considers in the best terests of state and nation. -0- VIGOROUS MAN NEEDED! If there ever was, a time when the country needed its best men in key po sitions that time is now. Faced with the gigantic task of organizing and carrying on an all-out war providing the sinews, of. war for our allies as well as for ourselves, there is work for vig orous men men not steeped in political tradition through years of feeding at the public trough who can see only the job at hand with no thought of con sant fence building and repairing with an eye' to future elections. That's a big order, but one we believe should be used as a yardstick in measuring the merits of candidates, especially those who would have a hand in forming our national policies. . ' ' Voters of the second congressional strict of Oregon have an opportunity recognize a man who measures up .'j this standard. In the prime of life, he has the capacity for work, hard work, and this combined with intelli gence and executive ability makes him the logical , candidate for representa tive in congress. Any reasonable thinker . will acknowledge Lowell Stockman's fitness for the job and that it is time that eastern Oregon awoke to the fact that new energy be injected into the lawmaking body at the nation al capital. , o A WORTHY ACHIEVEMENT i Burning of mortgages covering all indebtedness against the property of the Church of-Christ marked the cul mination : of almost twenty years of iriithful effort on the part of the com aratively small congregation.
