Thelma Smethurst is in a Pendle- ton hospital convalescing from an appendicitis operation. Ruth Acklen of Madras is visit ing her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Har ry Dinges. Mr. and Mrs. Cletus Nichols and son of Corvallis visited relatively here this week. Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Rice and granddaughter Eleanor have re turned home from a month's vaca tion spent in Portland. Dan Dinges is in Portland on business. The H. E. C. club ill meet Thurs day, September 10th, at the home of Mrs. Joe Devine. It is hoped that all members will be present in cluding the new members. Mr. and Mrs. Al Fetsch and sen Larry are moving into the Con gregational church parsonage. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Chandler and daughter Betty are living in the Christian church parsonage. Mr, and Mrs. Richard Schoon over and family have purchased the Morey house and are moving in to get ready for the school year. Mrs. Frank Papineau, daughter Frances, and sons, Freddy, Ray, Dale and Earl Lee spent Tuesday in Pendleton. Ralph Jackson was a business vis itor in The Dalles last week. Mrs. Roy Williams' brother visit ed her one day this week. . Mrs. Ralph Ledbetter and daugh te r Estelle are visiting, another daughter, Mrs. Vernon Christopher son, and family in Canby. School teachers this year will be Mr. T. R. Burton, superintendent, Miss Helen Niger and Mrs. Marie Clary in the high school; Mrs. Edna Turner, first and second; Mrs. Katli ryn Linstrom, third and fourth; Mr. Vemon Knowles, fifth and sixth, and Mrs. Lillian Turner, sev enth and eighth. Mr. Knowles will also be athletic coach for the school. Grange will be he,ld in the lo cal hall Saturday, September 12. There will be a good program and as there were no meetings in July and August, a large crowd is ex pected to attend. The new mem bers are especiall urged to be pre sent, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Breeding of Spray were here Tuesday looking for a house to rent for the school year. Mr. Messen ger works with the state highway deartment. Mr, and Mrs. Clifford McCabe of Heppner are moving into the Frank Munker's house beside the W. F. Barnett home. Mr. McCabe is em ployed at the Lexington Co-Op. Mr. and Mrs. Merritt Gray and son Michael -spent the weekend in Stanfield at the Gene Gray home. They were accompanied over by Bobby Gray who visited relatives here for the past several weeks. Glen Thompson of Seattle visit ed his sisters, Mary Hunt and Esth er Thompson, and other relathes here this week. Mrs. Frank Turner was leader for . the evening, and the theme was Central American and Mexican music. Solos were given by Mrs. Tom Wilson, violin, Miss Marylou Ferguson and Miss Jean Turner, piano solos, Mrs. Peterson, voice, Miss Gwen Glasgow piano. Miss Letha Humhreys gave a talk on siestas of Mexico, based on her persons! observation. Refreshments were served at the close of thi evening.
