Mr. and Mrs. Jay Harris drove to The Dalles yesterday to be present this evening at graduation exercises of The Dalles high school when their daughter Naomi will receive her dip loma. Mrs. Harris arrived here the first of the week, and the family will return to reside at the Jones apartments while Mr. Harris is em ployed as messenger on the local branch of the Union Pacific railroad. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Moyer and daughter Betty Lou and Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Hudson returned Sun day evening from a trip to coast points. While there they visited Mrs. Hudson's parents, Mr. and Mrs. .James Wilkins at Myrtle Creek. Lt. James P. Farley arrived in Heppner Monday for a visit with relatives and friends before being ordered to join his outfit. He re ceived his sheepskin with the gradu ates at Oregon State college last week, along with the commission with which he joins the army. C. A. Minor drove over from his home at Mt. Vernon to make the pil grimmage to the local cemetery on Decoration day. In spite of illness the last several years he still drives his car and get over the country by himself. Mrs. Lera Crawford and sons. John, Hugh and Calvin, departed yesterday for Berkeley, Cal., where they expected to spend the summer. John and Hugh arrived Saturday night from Eugene after completing their year's work at the university. Bob Scrivner arrived home Friday evening from his studies at the close of the school year at the University of Oregon, Eugene, to visit his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Scrivner. He accompanied John and Hugh Crawford. Coming from their John Day home for Decoration day were Mr. and Mrs. Guy Boyer. Their son Phil is a CAA aviation instructor at a field in California. Sheriff C. J. D. Bauman plans to attend the annual convention of Northwest Sheriffs and Police to be held at Victoria, B. C, June 22 and 23. Harold Becket who recently clos ed his welding and machine hop here to do war work, has accepted employment on construction work at Walla Walla. Callers at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Buschke last week end were their daughters, Mrs. Sanford Kari and son of Seaside and Mrs. Martha Brown of Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Gonty and family visited over the week end at Beaverton with Mrs.. Gonty's par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hemrich. Mrs. Loren Mikesell of Toppenish, Wash., was visiting in Heppner Mon day while on a week's visit with friends and relatives at Lexington. Matt Kenny was home on fur lough from the navy this week, vis iting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John F. Kenny. Mr. and Mrs. R. G. McMurtry visited Portland over the week end, accompanied by John Skuzeski, Jr., and Calvin Crawford. Mr. and Mrs. Homer Hayes and son Billy visited relatives here over the week end from their home at Hermiston. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth House were week end visitors at White Bluffs, Wash., where they visited at the home of Mr. House's mother. Harry Anderson, livestock inspec tor for First National Bank of Port land, was in the local territory this week. Dr. J. P. Stewart, Eye-Sight Spe cialist of Pendleton will be at the HEPPNER HOTEL on WEDNES DAY, JUNE 10th. Tilden Williams, Jr., was visiting relatives and friends here this week, on furlough from army service. Mrs. Ellis Hendrickson is visiting her mother, Mrs. Jeff Jones, coming from her home at San Leandro, Cal. Ivan Cox and R. D. Ward of Walla Walla were business visitors in the city Tuesday from Walla Walla. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Egan of "Wishram, Wash., were Memorial day visitors here. Over Memorial day visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Thom son were Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Gibb and daughter Judy of Poulsbo, Wn., and Mr. and Mrs. Merle Becket and son Paul of Wallowa. Mr. Becket's mother, Mrs. Daisy Shively, accom panied the Beckets from her home at La Grande. Mrs. Walter McNeill arrived this week for a visit at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Cow ins. Mr. McNeill, with the army air corps, had written that he expected soon to go "somewere on the war front." Miss Rae Cowins, who has been attending St. Anthony's acad emy in Pendleton is also home for summer. Sunday visitors in Heppner were Mr. and Mrs. John Kilkeny of Pen leton, and Mr. Kilkenny's sisters, Mrs. William Lillivan of Alameda, Cal, Mrs. Charles Chadburne of Se attle and Mrs. Henry Cohn of Pen dleton. Alva Jones returned from Port land the first of the week, accom panied by his son Don, on vacation from studies at U. of 0. Mrs. Jones and Bobby, who went to the city with him, remained below for a more extended visit. Dr. and Mrs. W. H. Rockwell en joyed a visit last week end from their son, Wallace Rockwell, em ployee of Boeing airplane plant in Seattle. L. L. Gilliam and son Don were in Corvallis last week end to attend graduation exercises at 0. S. ;C, son and brother Louis being a member of the graduating class. Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Gilliam, Mrs. Charles Vaughn and Louis Gilliam went to Walla Walla Monday to at tend graduating exercises for Jack son Gilliam at Whitman college. Dud Aiken arrived home the end of the week on vacation from his studies at Eastern Washington Col lege of Education at Ellensburg. T. J. Humphreys was in Hillsboro last week end for a family reunion. HARDMAN NEWS Huston Sheep First to Go Through Hardman By ELSA M. LEATHERS The Claud Huston sheep have been the first ones in this commun ity to go through here for their summer range. Mr. Huston moved his sheep on June 1st. Misses Mary and Ann Mclntyre returned home from Corvallis this week where they have been attend ing college. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Reed and daughter visited Mrs. B. H. Bleak man over the week end. Misses Nadine Morton and Mar jory Boon of Portland visited Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Brannon over the week end. Miss Morton is a sister of Mt. Brannon. Sam Johnson of Spray and his as sistant moved the phone and switch from the garage to the postoffice Monday of this week. They are also repairing the line which is in poor condition due to fallen trees in the mountains and winds in the open country. Miss Rita Mclntyre is spending the week in Heppner while she is teaching summer school at the church. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Rogers vis ited friends and relatives at Kinzua for several days this week before leaving for Portland where Mr. Rog ers will enter a diesel school. Mr. and Mrs. Rogers have operated a grocery store here the last two years. Their leaving leaves this town with out a store or gas station. Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Adams accompanied them to Kinzua. Miss Rita Robinson is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Robinson, from Portland this week. She will return to the city on Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Victor Lovgren and family and Mrs. Owen Leathers and Ed McDaniel visited the Harlan Ad ams' at Kinzua Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Delvin McDaniel are visiting Mrs. McDaniel's father, O. L. Sparks at Pendleton this week. Mr. and Mrs. Les Robinson and family were in Pendleton Monday on business. IONE NEWS Elaine Nelson Weds Carol Robe at lone By MRS. ELMER GRIFFITH The marriage of Miss Elaine Nel son to Mr. Carol Robe was solem nized on Sunday, May 31, at 7 o' clock in the morning at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ivar Nelson. The ceremony was read by the Rev. J. Fred Stillwell. The bride wore a baby blue taffeta with an orchid corsage. Those pre sent were Mr. and Mrs. Ivar Nelson, Thelma Nelson, Mr. and Mrs. Still well and son Dale. The bride is a graduate of the University of Ore gon and for the last two years has been teaching at Umapine. Mr. Robe, whose home is in Eugene, is also a university man and has been teaching at Madras. Following the ceremony, the young couple left on a honeymoon trip to Portland and southern Oregon. A wedding of interest to many here occurred at Clarkston, Wash., last Sunday when Miss Mapril Mc Murray, daughter of Mr. Mont Mc Murray became the bride of Mr. Walter Anderson of Everett. Wash,, at a pretty home wedding. The bride is known here, where she has visited a number of times with her aunt, Mrs. I. R. Robison, and her uncle, Laxton McMurray. Mr. and Mrs. Edmond Bristow and family of Nampa, Idaho, are spend ing their vacation here, visiting Mr. Bristow's parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Bristow and Mrs. Bristow's mo ther, Mrs. Ida Grabil. On Sunday the Bristows.and Mrs. E. J. Bristow's brother-in-law and sister and fam ily, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Swenson of Walla Walla were guests at the Da vid Rietmann home. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Yarnell are moving into the Ida Moore house, which they recently purchased. Clifford Yamell of Lexington is at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Yarnell, suffering from an attack of chicken pox. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Blake are mov ing to Heppner this week, where Mr. Blake has employment for the summer, and his aunt, Mrs. Mary Blake, will move into his house in lone. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Clark have word from their son, Lowell Clark, that he was in charge of a squad of men, and was on his way to Balti more. F. W. Sheridan, U. P. agent, spent the week end in San Francisco with friends. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Balsiger drove over from their home at White Sal mon last Thursday bringing flowers for Decoration day. They were guests at the J. A. Troedson home. Mrs. Lillie Hayes of Eugene and her brother, Carl Morgan, of Port land, passed through Morgan last Thursday and called on several of their old friends. They are the chil dren of A. C. Morgan and formerly lived in this vicinity. Mrs. Hayes noted many changes in the1 country, as it had been thirty years since she had been here. Mr. and Mrs. Foster Odom spent the week end in Portland, and re turned home on Sunday. Mr. Od om's parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Od om of Salem, accompanied them home for a short visit. Bill Ahalt of Mosier was a guest at the home of his niece, Mrs. Ray Barnett, on Sunday. Mrs. Franklin Ely and children, Francine and Fayne, returned on Sunday from Portland, where they had been visiting Mrs. Ely's moth er, Mrs. Pierrot. They attended the graduation from the Good Samaritan hospital of Miss Mignonette Perry of Morgan. BUI Biddle of Seattle spent a few days the last of the week visiting his mother, Mrs. Vernon Brown. He is employed in an aircraft plant. Miss Marjorie Sell, third and fourth grade teacher, left on Mon day for Salem. On June 7 she plans to leave for Chicago and from there go to Indiana, where she will visit her sister. Mildred Carlson, Dorothy Berg strom and Darlene Biddle, winners of the 4-H scholarships, left on Tu esday for Corvallis where the 4-H summer school is held on the Ore gon State campus. Miss Freda Ball left on Sunday for Portland where she will visit relatives. Pinckney of Heppner attend ed the local council meeting Tues day evening, and they stated that a moving picture would be shown here in the near future showing how to put out a bomb and showing different safety precautions in war time. Mrs. J. F. McMillan and son Den ny and daughter Colleen, and Her man Wallace are spending a few days in Portland. Kenneth Peck is visiting his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. George Peck. Newt O'Hara and Archie Padberg, Jr., motored to Portland this week end. Mr. OTIara's son Jack who is attending college returned home with him and Billy Scott came with them to visit Archie Padberg. Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Vinson spent Tuesday in Spray. Mrs. Hanson and daughter are visiting her mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Burnside. Mrs. Ralph Jackson and daughters spent the week end in Portland. They were accompanied rprne by her son Kenneth who will spend the summer here. Margaret Browning of Baker is visiting her parents here. Mrs. Clifford Yarnell and daugh ter are visiting in Newberg. Mr. and Mrs. Cletus Nichols and son are visiting relatives here. Mr. and Mrs. Barton and son are guests of her mother, Mrs. Nettie Davis. On Saturday and Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Loren Mikesell and daughters of Toppenish and Mrs. Gene Gray and son Bobby of Stan field were also her guests. Mr. Mike sell and Mrs. Gray returned to their home Sunday evening but Mrs. Mikesell and daughters remained for a visit with Mrs. Davis and Bobby Gray stayed with his sister, Mrs. Laurel Ruhl. Mr. and Mrs. Merritt Gray spent Saturday and Sunday in Stanfield and Irrigon. Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Steagall and family spent Sunday in Spray and Fossil. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Whillock and Sandy and Mrs. Wilbur Steagall spent Friday evening in Irrigon. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Breshears, daughter Bunny, and June Steagall spent Saturday in Hermiston. Sun day Mr. and Mrs. Breshears in com pany with Mr. and Mrs. Everett Crump of Heppner vsited at the Hynd brothers ranch. On Wednesday Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Van Winkle and son Bill visited at the home of her sister, Mrs. Robert Wilcox in Hermiston. Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Burnside have purchased the house formerly oc cupied by Joe Thornburg. Mr. Burnside has been given the janitor job at the schoolhouse for next year. A number of local boys are out on a camping trip. Stanley Way is visiting his par ents and brothers while on a short furlough from his army duties. Vera Whillock and Helen Crump of Heppner spent Tuesday in Irri gon and vicinity. Lorene Van Winkle is staying with Lavonne McMillan for a few days. Prosser, Wash., were guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Troedson on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Martin Bauernfeind and children of Mor gan and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Smouse and daughter of lone, were also guests. Walter Corley of Portland spent the week end visiting friend here. Charles O'Conner drove to Mc Minnville and Eugene last week. He was accompanied by Mrs. J. H. Bry son, who is visiting in Portland, and Miss June Yarnall, who was re turning to her home after complet ing her school year here. Katherine Griffith Lindstrom was graduated last Friday from Oregon College of Education at Monmouth. She is a member of Sigma Epsilon Pi. Her mother, Mrs. Elmer Grif fith, and sister June, attended the graduation exercises. She will teach in Boardman next year. Willows grange will hold their reg ular meeting June 6, 8 p.m., at the hall. A social will follow the bus iness meeting. IRRIGON ITEMS By MRS. J. A. SHOUN Wayne Caldwell spent the week end with his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Caldwell. Willard Jones is home from east ern Oregon normal and will; spend the summer here. Leslie Ruker is employed at the Umatilla ordnance depot. Maxene and Nadine Ruker of Los tine arrved Monday to spend a month with Mrs. Don Kenny and Mrs. Ida Slaughter. Mrs. Fred Lenz who has been vis iting in Salem is staying with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. Forbes. Mr. Lenz is stationed at Camp Robert son, Arizona. Mrs. Cosner's sister, Mary Jane, has spent one week of a two week visit with the Cosners. Don Rutledge and Adren, and Calvin Alvin began working at the Umatilla ordnance depot near Her miston on June 1st. Eugene Crail of Bozeman, Mont, spent Sunday at the J. W. Warren and Rand homes. He is Mrs. War ner's nephew. He is working at Pen dleton. ! Mrs. Frank Allen was a dinner guest at the B. P. Rands home. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Goodman and the Hazelriggs spent Sunday with the H. C. Warners. Mr. and Mrs. Knox of Kellogg, Idaho, were out of town visitors at the Presbyterian church Sunday. Mrs. L. L. Sites and Mrs. Lloyd Aldridge and son spent from Wed nesday to Friday in Walla Walla. Mr. Aldridge and Mr. Sites are car penters in the cantonment there. They had to wait until Saturday to come home because of the no vaca tion order. They went back Sunday night. F. C. Aldridge has installed an electric pump instead of a gasoline pump and Mr. Sites installed an- el ectric pump on a newly drilled welL Six wells have been drilled here recently. The average depth is 55 feet. Avery Shoun spent a few hours in Irrigon on June 3. Mrs. Milton Amos and children of Kellogg, Idaho, are visiting her parents, the E. L. Ruchers. They arrived Sunday. Mrs. Rucher's brother, Mr. Lath rop and son Harold visited the Ru chers June 2. Harold is training in Pendleton. Mrs. Doug Whipple of Tacoma left June 2 after visiting with her hus band's people, the H. H. Whipples, for a few days. Doug is in Austral ia, according to a cable he sent her.
