Gazette Times, Heppner, LEAGUE SPEAKERS BRING LATE WORD ON WORLD SITUATION Continued from First Page the need for bothersome priorities; as he declared that AAA does not yet control all agriculture, and as he brought the story of what he saw in England. He appealed for whole hearted support of farmers in rais ing those commodities now asked to succor the British, commodities that can be shipped and which are vital ly necessary to the British morale. England is far from beaten, but her people are undernourished. They look pretty good, but their diet has been overbalanced with protein and they do not have the stamina, said Mr. Evans. It is necessary for min ers, for instance, to take one day off a week in order to retain strength to carry on. The industrial minister told Mr. Evans that all industrial production could be increased 20 percent with proper foods. Mr. Evans personally witnessed and felt the impact of a bombing at tack on a British air field. He vis ited all parts of the country and mingled with people of every strat um, as a member of a commission sent by the president to learn the true food situation. Investigation was made of how England is apply ing her own efforts to meet the food demand, and it was found the government has taken over all farms "for the duration" and is di recting all food production in an ef ficient manner. At the conclusion of his address Mr. Evans was told of the unani mous action of the league in backing the new amended AAA program, GIFTS FOR HIM Handsome Rayon Robes....3.98 Famous Gentry Pajamas.l.f5 Glove Leather Slippcrs.:....1.19 Thrift-Priced Pajamas 1.19 Good-Looking Hose, 4 prs. 1.00 Smart Capcskin Gloves 98c Marathon Hats 2.98 Cowhide Gladstones 5.90 Leather Billfolds 98c Fitted Tourist Cases 1.98 Grained Pigskin Belts 49c Boxed Razor Blades (50)..50c Zipper Coat Sweaters 2.98 All Wool Slipovers..... 1.98 Gift Boxed Hankies, 2 for 49c Gift Boxed Hankies, 2 for 25c Smart Border Hankies, ea 25c Fine Cotton Hankies, ca.....l0c Thrift-Priced Hankies, ea.....5c Part Wool Socks, pr ...39c Fur Lined Dress Gloves 1.98 Fine Capcskin Gloves ...1.98 Rayon or Wool Robes ..4.98 Lovely Rayon Housecoats..4.98 Budget-Priced Robes .. 2.98 Trimmed Rayon Gowns . .. 1.98 Rayon Satin Slips ...1.49 Rayon Knit Undies ... .49c Budget-Wise Undies.... 29c Dainty Rayon Bcdjackcts....98c Glen Row Dresses. . 2.98 Rayon Satin Blouses ... 98c Pinwheel Skating Skirts....2.98 All Wool Sweaters 1.98 Fur-Trimmed Sport Hoods..98c Leather Handbags 1.98 Economy Handbags ...98c Fitted Weck-End Cases.....2.98 Fitted Make-Up Cases 2.98 Finely Knit Gloves ....98c Smart Rayon Gloves 49c Gay Print Hankies .5c Box of 3 Lawn Hankies 25c Box of 3 Linen Hankies 49c Pure Linen Hankies ...29c Box of 3 Cotton Hankies....15c Smart Bedroom Slippers 98c Smart Rayon Pajamas 1.98 All Wool Slipovers 98c J Oretron and he was given a showing of hands of those farmers who were now willing to sell their wheat for the loan in order to help clear the way for a new crop. In his banquet address, Dr. Du bach made strong appeal for a uni ted America to defeat the ideology of would-be world conquerors, such as Germany and Japan were assert ed to be. He. gave first-hand anec dotes from personal observations in those countries of how this ideology has worked for many years. Relating how he himself had just missed being a European peasant, having come to this country when one year of age, he told how he had worked his way through several American colleges without a thin dime to start on, and asked if that could have been done in any Euro pean country. This was cited as one of many reasons why "I love Amer ica," oft-repeated by the speaker. SH P The Dalles Freight Line, Inc.
