SOCIETY CHIT-CHAT

Thanksgiving day is reuniting
many families for the traditional
dinner and thanks. Most students
are returning home for the holiday,
and a number of relatives from oth
er localities are joining members
of their families for the week end.
Among students returning are
Miss Frances Wilkinson and Dick
Wilkinson who arrived home last
night for the week end. Mrs. Anna
Bayless, who returned Monday eve
ning from Monument, where she
nas been with her son, Howard
Swick, will also be a guest at Wil
kinson's Thanksgiving table. Bill
Barratt and Bob Scrivner arrived
last night from O. S. C. to be with
their families until Sunday. Henry
Aiken, Jr., has come home from El
lensburg to remain until Sunday
with his parents. Katherinie Thomp
son came home with ''Mary Kay
Blake and the Krebs twins and will
be at a family dinner at the hortw of
her mother, Mra Sophrona Thomp
son. Also present will be Mr. and
Mrs. Earle Bryant and children, Mr.
and Mrs. Stephen Thompson and
children and Mr. and Mrs. Lukt
Bibby. Miss Blake will spend the
holiday with her family and the
Krebs boys with their mother and
father at Cecil
Frances and Paul McCarty arriv
ed last night accompanied by their
aunt, Mrs. P. A. Anderson of Seat
tle, and all will spend Thanksgiving
at the W. C. MbCarty home.
Miss Katherine Parker who is at
tending Eastern Oregon Normal
will be with her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Frank S. Parker.
Dr. and Mrs. .A. D. McMurdo will
have Scott, who is attending Ore
gon State, home for the week end.
Other Thanksgiving guests will
be Mrs. Lewis Smith and Mr. and
Mrs. Charles Dower and son Jack
of Naches, Wash., who will be at the
Orville Smith home. Mrs. Smith and
Mrs. Dower are Mr. Smith's mother
and sister. Mr. and Mra M. F.

J. W. Hiatt, as will Mr. and Mrs.
Oscar Rippee and family, Mr. and
Mrs. Wm. McFerrin and Claude and
Bill Snow and Delbert Hiatt. Miss
Betty Happold of Hermiston will
have Thanksgiving dinner with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hap
pold.
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Turner will
have a family dinner at their home,
with Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Miller
and children, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Ap
plegate and children, Mr. and Mrs.
Bernard Doherty present.
Gene Doherty is home from Fort
Canby, Wah., or Thanksgiving.
Owen McLaughlin of Tacoma was
a guest at the Harvey Miller home
Tuesday night.
Among those who are leaving
town for the holiday are Mr. and
Mrs. Tom Wilson, who will be 'at
Post Falls, Idaho, with Mrs. Wilson's
parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Fisher.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Nickerson
left yesterday for Portland, where
they will spend Thanksgiving with
their daughter, Mrs. W. C. Hayes
and family.
Mr. and Mrs. Owen French and
Mr. and Mrs. Everett Iler are spend
ing today at Astoria. '
Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Stewart drove
to Ontario for Thanksgiving.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Buzzard
with Mrs. Buzzard's parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Charles Hugg, drove to
Id. ho, where they are visiting Mrs.
Hogg's mother for Thanksgiving.
Mrs. Lyle Swenson entertained
members of the Kensington club at
her home last Monday afternoon.
The afternoon was spent sewing and
refreshments were served by the
hostess.
The Altar society is sponsoring a
Thanksgiving dance tonight at the
lone grange hall The Men About
Town will play and everyone is
welcome to attend. The nylon blan
ket will be given away.
Mrs. Cornett Green was hostess
to her bridge club Tuesday evening
at her home. Mrs. William Cox won
high score and Mrs. Oscar Rippee
sscond. Refreshments were served
at the close of play.
Mrs. Charles Simpson of Pilot
Rock visited friends in Heppner
Monday.

Jimmy Farley Third
At Ogden Show
James J. Farley, senior in agri
culture at O. S. C, from Heppner,
placed third among 25 students from
five western states at the Ogden,
Utah, Livestock show, October 31.
Jim was awarded first in the judg
ing of fat stock, tied for first in
the judging of sheep, and won a
second prize in the judging of beef.
According to the O. S. C. Barom
eter, student daily, Jim and five
other agriculture seniors visited sev
eral well known stock ranches on
the return trip from Ogden.
H. E. C. will meet at the Rhea
Creek grange hall on November 27,
with an all day meeting. Alice An
derson will be hostess. Following
the H. E. C. a pot-luck supper at
6 o'clock will be served for all mem
bers and their friends. Cards will
be played after supper.
Dr. J. P. Stewart, Eye-Sight Spe
cialist of Pendleton will be at the
