Chet Christenson, visiting at home whjle on a 24-day leave from his duties with Uncle Sam's mar ines, and brother, Pete, opened the deer hunting season in the vicinity of Thompson flats and each bagged a nice buck. Chet has been trans ferred from Quantico, Va., where he attended training school, to San Diego, with orders to report October 3. He now has his commission as a second lieutenant. Claude Hill and family are spend ing the week here from their home at Redmond. Claude enjoyed a deer hunt the end of the week and this week has been assisting his broth er Harold in a rush of electrical work. Scott McMurdo, who returned re cently from a summer in Alaska with his brother- Ted where they were employed by a large mining company at Fairbanks, left this week for Corvallis to resume his studies at Oregon State college. Clifford Carlson and Ted Peterson of Gooseberry left Tuesday for Eu gene to resume their studies at the University of Oregon for the com ing year. Ted is entering as a freshman and Clifford as a junior. A. L. Black, M. D., now of Her miston, Oregon, who has been fit ting glasses in Dr. McMurdo's office during the past year will continue doing so every Tuesday, at same office. Hours 11-3. Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Potter of Port land were over-night callers in Heppner Monday night. They were long-time residents of the Spray section, and Mrs. Potter is a sister-in-law of Frank Roberts of this city. Danny Dinges, who has worked in the local branch First National Bank of Portland for the last two years, departed for Corvallis on Fri day to enroll as a student at O. S. C. Charles Petersen of Portland, with a leading typewriter concern in the city, accompanied F. B. Nickerson on a hunting trip into the Ukiah district the end of the week. Leland Edmondson departed Sat urday to resume his studies at Ore gon State college. Food sale, Case Fur. Store, Sat., Sept. 27, 10:30. Methodist Society. Leta Humphreys and Rose Leib brand left yesterday morning for Portland. This week end they will attend the state conference of Bus iness and Professional Womens clubs, following which Miss Leib brand will go to Portland to con tinue the aviation course she start ed some time ago. Helen Phelan from San Francisco visited last week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. P. Phelan, while on vacation from her work in the city. Dr. J. P. Stewart, Eye-Sight Spe cialist pf Pendleton will be at the HEPPNER HOTEL on WEDNES DAY, OCTOBER 1st. Frank Rumble left Saturday night for a week's visit at his old home in Montana. SMITH-BUELL Before the altar of St. John's church in Condon Miss Margaret Marie Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Smith, became the bride of Harold Buell, son of Mr. and Mrs H. O. Buell of Hermiston, Sunday, Sept. 14, at 11 a. m. Rev. John Lee officiated. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore an impressed satin gown with a rose point lace veil gathered to a hali of seed pearls and draped to the end of her dress train. She carried orchids, lilies and brides roses. , Her maid of honor, Miss Suzie Blinster of Hermiston, wore a fitted pink pastel taffeta dress and Miss Virginia Todd, bridesmaid, wore a similar blue dress. They carried a fan-shaped bouquet of yellow, blue and pink flowers. Mr. James Couture of Hermiston acted as best man and Alfred Buell ushered. Mrs. R. Knight of Umatilla played the organ and Rita Jean Kennedy sang at the wedding. A reception was held at the Smith home and a buffet luncheon serving around 75 friends and relatives of the bride and groom. Mrs. Al Red den cut ices. Miss Hal Portwood and Mrs. O. V. Reser poured. Miss Ar Icta Reser served wedding cake. The bride chose a matched forest green wool dress and coat with Brit ish tan accessories for going away. She wore orchids on her lapel. Af ter a trip to British Columbia they will be at home in Umatilla. Contributed.
