Among early arrivals from the '
Round-Up city who stayed for all
the Rodeo that time permitted were
Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Stockman and
John Kilkenny. Mr. Stockman is a
member of the state liquor control
commission and Mr. Kilkenny, a for
mer resident, is city attorney at
Pendleton.
House guests of Mr. and Mrs. Har
lan McCurdy during the Rodeo were
Herman Ralston of Hillsboro, Er
nest Noes of Milwaukee and Miss
Ann Thompson, Miss Mary He&sel
and Miss June Kirkpatrick, three
princesses of the Pendleton Round-Up.
Miss Edith Wehmeyer of San
Francisco arrived Wednesday for a
visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs,
Fred Wehmeyer. Mrs. Wehmeyer,
who had been visiting in Winthrop,
Wash., met her in Portland and ac
companied her home.
Mrs. Lamont Slocum of The Dalles
left Tuesday for her home after
spending the week end with friends
in Heppner. She was accompanied
home by her husband's mother, Mrs.
Katie Slocum, who will make her
heme with them.
Mr. and Mrs. Dick Wightman and
children will leave soon to make
their home in Grants Pass where
Mr. Wightman has been transerred
from Hermiston by the Farm Secur
ity administration.
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Michener left
Wednesday for Klamath Falls where
he has been transferred by the Soil
Conservation service. They return
ed Monday from a week-end trip
to the coast.
The Condon vicinity was repre
sented about as strong as any of our
neighbors at the Rodeo. Among
those seen in the crowd were John
Monahan, Billy Campbell, Mrs. Kate
Russell and son, Ed Russell Mrs.
Weed, Mr. O'Brien.
Mr. and Mrs. Eddie M. Kenny
who recently moved to Pendleton
from here were back Sunday to take
in the Rodeo. Eddie was a director
of this year's show before moving
to Pendleton.
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Ridings,
who have been visiting her parents,
Mr. arid Mrs. M. D. Clark, will leave
Friday for their home in New York
after spending their vacation on the
west coast and in Heppner.
Mr. and Mrs. Guy Boyer and
daughter Jane, and Chester Saling
were among former Morrow resi
dents who were renewing friend
ships during the Rodeo from John
Day.
John O'Dell and Mr. Fullbright,
representing Tum-A-Lum Lumber
Co., were among those present for
the opening day of Rodeo. Said they
had a wonderful time.
Miss Cecelia Nordstrom was a
guest of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Jones
over the week end. She was en
route to Dorris, Cal., where she will
teach the coming school term.
H. O. Kunsman and Miss Luc le
Vale of Moro visited Mr. Kunsman's
daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs
Robert Marvin, Saturday and Sun
day.
Glen Jorgensen of Ukiah visited
friends in Heppner Saturday. He
left the first of the week for Luman,
Wash., where he has been transfer
red to the Luman CCC camp.
Miss Juanita Phelps, who is tak
ing nurses training at St. Anthony's
hospital in Pendleton, is spending
a two weeks' vacation with her mo
ther. Mrs. Margaret Phelps.
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Ohlegslager and
daughter Ella of The Dalles, former
Heppner residents, were Rodeo
guests of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gen-
Guy Cason, native Morrow coun-
tian, came over from Pendleton
where he now barbers, in time for
Sunday's show.
Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Jaeckel of
Portland arrived Saturday for a visit
with her brother and wife, Mr. and
Mrs. J. 0. Peterson.
Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Rippee and
family and Mr. and Mrs. John Hiatt
left Monday for a week's vacation
in Washington.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Becket and fam
ily of Waitsburg visited her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wehmeyer, over
the week end.
Miss Kinealev Chapin returned
frn Coouille where she
spent the summer with relatives,
Eight Campfire girls will leave
Sunday morning by car for Camp
Merriweather on the coast for a
week's outing. They are Claudine
Drake, Merlyn Kirk, Colleen Miller,
Jean Turner, Patricia Kenny, Lou
ise Green, Betty Marie Coxn and
Mary Lou Ferguson. Mrs. R. . B
Ferguson will take part of the group
in her car.
Mr. and' Mrs. Ralph Thompson are
expected home this Sunday from
a two weeks' trip in Colorado and
Wyoming. They attended the Col
orado State Woolgrowers' conven
tion in Glenwood Springs and the
Wyoming state convention in Chey
enne and are returning through Yel
lowstone national park.
Umatilla county's judge, Carl
Chambers, Pendleton's mayor who1
attended school in Heppner up to
entering the service in the last war,
Buck Lieuallen, and Umatilla coun
ty's agricultural agent Walter Holt
were seen among those in the lead
of the Mustangers who rode in Sat
urday's Rodeo parade.
Mr. and Mrs. Glen Sherer and
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Ebert of La
Grande and Mr. and Mrs. Harlan
Devin and children of Condon were
visiting friends in Heppner during
the Rodeo. The Sherers and Eberts
were house guests of Mr. and Mrs.
Bill Isom.

Mr. and Mrs. Lester Ingram of
Nampa, Idaho, visited Mr. and Mrs.
Ed Clark and other friends en route
home from a trip to the coast Satur
day. Mr. Ingram is a former Hepp
ner boy and is now a postal clerk
in the Nampa postoffice.
Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Gaily were
Rodeo guests from Pendleton and
on Monday morning Mrs. Gaily ac
companied Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Rip
pee and Mrs. John Hiatt on a motor
trip to Crater lake and on south into
the Redwoods.
Mrs. Lera Crawford and son Cal
vin arrived Tuesday evening from
Berkeley, Cal., where they spent the
summer, in preparation for the ope
ning of school. John and Hugh re
mained in the Bay city where they
have jobs in the Heinz factory.
Mrs. Edward Green left Sunday
evening for Portland after spending
several weeks here visiting her mo
ther, Mrs. Agnes Curran. and taking
care of Mrs. Curran's store while
she was on vacation.
Tim Rippee was in the city the
end of the week from Boardman,
reporting things moving along at a
lively clip in that section, what
with the ammunition diggings next
door.
W. W. Bechdolt was a business
visitor in the city Friday on his way
to his son Archie's home at Hard
man from the Boardman farm. He
reported a mighty busy season on
the project.
Among Baker people coming for
Sunday's Rodeo were Mr. and Mrs.
Bob McCord (Neva Chidsey, who
spent her girlhood in Heppner), and
Mr. and Mrs. Guy Coe.
Carl Smith of St. Paul, Ore., won
the all-wool blanket given by the
woolgrowers auxiliary during Ro
deo. Mr. Smith is president of the
St. Paul rodeo.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hayes and
Miss Margaret Hayes, queen of the
Condon rodeo, were guests of Mr.
and Mrs. Glenn Hayes over the
week end.
Mrs. Ellis Hendricson and son Al
vin departed Monday for their home
at San Leandro, Cal., after spending
several weeks visiting relatives and
friends here.
Patrick J. Farley, sheep buyer
from Klamath Falls was an inter
ested Rodeo visitor while renewing
acquaintances with his many friends.
Jack Folsom, Jack Stangier, Tei
Kaplinger and Mr. and Mrs. Ricn
Thompson were among Pendleton
ians in the city Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. Lee Howell departed
the end of the week on a two weeks
vacation motor trip.
Mrs. Charles Buzzard left Sunday
for a month's visit with her parents
in Humboldt, Kansas.
THOMAS MARION SCOTT
Funeral services for Thomas Mar
ion Scott were held at the Christian
church in Heppner on August 12,
with Rev. Cecil Warner of Hermiston
officiating. Mr. Scott was born near
Fairfield, Missouri, on December 24,
1852, and passed away in Salem,
Oregon, on August 10, 1941. In 1376
he was united in marriage with
Martha Kidwell, arid to the union
were born Sarah Adeline, Mary Ann,
OUie Tennessee, Laura Etta, and
Henry Clay. In 1896 he joined the
Holiness church, and in 1901 he
brought his family to Oregon and
settled near Sand Hollow. His wife
passed away in 1910. He moved
to Salem,Oregon, in 1911 where he
spent his remaining years. In 1933
he married Mary Ingles. He is sur
vived by his wife, Mary Scott, one
daughter, Mary Tucker of Stanfield,
23 grandchildren, and 21 greatgrandchildren.
Miss Donna Johnson of Pendleton
is visiting her aunt and uncle, Mr.
and Mrs. Paul Jones, for two weeks.
Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Griffith left
Wednesday for a two weeks' vaca
tion at Eugene.
Jack Harris of Arlington was am
ong those present for opening day
of Rodeo.
Former residents renewing ac
qaintances at Rodeo time were Mil
lard Rodman and Herb Sauter.
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph McLachlan
of The Dalles visited over the" week
end with Mr. and Mrs. Jay Hamlin.
Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Batty and fam
ily of Monument attended the Hepp
ner Rodeo Friday and Saturday.
Henry Peterson of Eight Mile was
a business visitor here Tuesday.

Herbert Wright of The Dalles who
has been visiting his son Herb and
family for several days has been
showing his friends some beautiful
hand decorated photographs whoch
he makes as a hobby. One view is
two combined photographs of his
old farm in the Fossil country, which
he has done in natural colors. Just
to show his interest in Morrow
county he took a picture of t'.e
courthouse the first of the week and
expects to make it look as realistic
as his other views. Being a natiw
Englishman, he has been interested
in war developments and makes the
unbelievable report that England is
undergoing a real estate boom. This
news was not only given in a letter
from Mrs. Wright's folks in the old
country, but was verified by the
statement of a The Dalles man who
recently had some land in the old
country left to him. His English at
torney advised that the land could
easily be sold, but that payment
