Sam McMillan Tells
Of Air Corps Life
We were pleased to hear from a
Morrow county boy in the service,
this week. It was Sam G. McMillan
)? Lexington who wrote from 333
3ch. Sqdn., Stockton Field, Calif,
who wrote:
I would like to know Paul Brown's
address (you'll get it, Sam), if you
have it at your office. He and I
unlisted in this man's army at the
ame time and I would like to know
how the Infantry is in the Philip
pines. I am thankful that I was
able to get in the Air Corps. We
do not have so much of that old
Army discipline in the Air Corps
that still prevails in the Infantry.
In fact I only had three weeks of
basic training and that was mainly
learning to march.
We have 604 drafted men here
that came here about three weeks
ago. They were quite fortunate to
g:.t into the Air Corps and it was
a break for the enlisted men also
because they have done all of the
detail work that us new recruits
had to do.
My squadron moves to our home
rVld at Mather Field, Calif., on
July 29th. I will be glad to get to
Mather Field because it will be a.
much larger and nicer place than
Stockton Field It will be an ad
vanced flying school also for the,
flying cadets. ,
July 10th was graduation day for
141 cadets. Among them was Don
Evan Brown, son of Joe E. Brown.
I have seen Joe E. Brown on dif
ferent occasions when he would be
up from Hollywood visiting his son.
Also Howard Hughes' latest find,
Jane Russell has been here, giving
the soldiers and cadets a real treat.
We had to march in review at the
cadet graduation and it was no easy
job on these hot California days.
I hear some good news from Mor
row county. I understand the farm
ers are getting a real wheat crop
and a nice price also. By the way
are they trying to burn our Elks'
temple down, now that. we have it
all paid for?
Tell everybody at home hello for
me.
(P. S. After August 1st my ad
dress will be 333rd Sch. Sqdn., Ma
ther Field, Calif.)
About the time one learns to
make the most of life most of it
is gone.
