Mr. and Mrs. Leander Pavid were
visiting Morrow county relatives
and friends last week end from their
home at Sacramento, Cal., where
Mr. Pavid is head of the French
-department in Sacramento Junior
college. They came north by way
of Redmond and were accompanied
from there by Mrs. Ray Rogers who
visited her father, Chester Darbee,
While in the county the Pavids were
guests of Mr. Pavid's cousin, Mrs.
Omar Rietmann and family at Ion-i.
Mr. Pavid spent his boyhood days
'in Heppner and was graduated by
Heppner high school before attend
ing University of California and en
tering upon the educational career
which has included special research
work in France.
Fishing on Dee lake near Colona,
B. C, was found to be excellent -
a quartet of Heppner men who . e
turned home Sunday from a sever
al days' junt to that place. Enjoy
ing the Canadian sport were P. W.
Mahoney, Orville Smith, Luke Bib
by and Gene Ferguson. v
Mrs. V. R. Runnion has returned
to her home here after undergoing
a major operation in Portland. Mr.
Runnion motored to the city and
brought her home Monday. . Mis.
Runnion's sister, Mrs. Violet Halte-i-man
of Douglas, Wyo., is with hji.
Mrs. L. D. Tibbies and son Lanca
returned home Sunday from a sev
eral weeks' visit at the home of
Mrs. Tibbies' parents in Missouri.
They were met at Pendleton by Dr.
Tibbies.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Egan and
children spent the week end he.
frnm their home at Wishram, Wash.,
where Mr. Egan makes his head
quarters while working for the rail
road. Miss Harriet Pointer, deputy coun
ty clerk, returned home Sunday
from her vacation on which she vis
ited friends and relatives in the San
Francisco bay region.
Mrs. Richard Hayes of Hermiston
is at the home of her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Bud Hanlon recuperating
from a sprained ankle which she
received recently.
M. L. Case returned home the last
of the week from the U. S. Veterans'
hospital at Walla Walla where he
spent three weeks undergoing ob
servation and treatment.
J. A. Anglin departed Tuesday for
Yakima to make his home with the
family there, concluding elev ..:
years as manager of the local Safe
way store.
Mrs. Grace M. Turner has ac
cepted the position as secretary to
the Morrow County Selective Ser
vice board, succeeing Mrs. Kenneth
Akers who has gone to Hermiston.
Miss Marjorie Parker, stenograph
er at the First National bank, started
her two -weeks' vacation the first
of the week.
Harry Anderson, livestock agent
for First National Bank of Portland,
has been in the local district for sev
eral days.
Mrs. Harry Tamblyn and Peggy
are visiting relatives at Boise, Idaho,
until the Fourth. Mr. Tamblyn will
join them there for the holiday.
Howard Swick was a business vis
itor here the first of the week from
the ranch in the Monument section.

Peck of Lexington a 56 pound son
at Heppner hospital Friday.
Miss Luella Termeer of Honolulu,
T. H., was a guest this week of Mi;
Elaine Sigsbee.
There was one good thing about
the day of the horse and carriage;
you didn't have to wake anybody
up and get hay enough to take yo i
back to town.

Mr. and Mrs. Toby Burris of Los
Angeles passed through Heppner
yesterday and visited a short time
with friends. Mr. Burris is a repre
sentative of McKesson & Rabbins,
Inc., wholesale druggists. They werj
luncheon guests of Mr. and Mrs. Earl
Gordon. Mrs. Burris is a sister A
the former Mrs. William Poulson,
who resided at Heppner when Mr.
Poulson taught in the local schools.
William Vail and family are oc
cupying the Norbert Peavy resi
dence while Mr. Vail is engaged in
roofing work in the city. The Peavys
are at Wheeler Point in the moun-
tains where Mr. Peavy is stationad i
as lookout through the fire season.
Misses Leta Humphreys and Ros?
Leibbrand departed Saturday morn
ing for Turner to attend the sum
mer conference of Churches of
Christ, expecting to return to Port
land for a further visit before re
turning home.
Dr. A. D. McMurdo is in receipt
of word that his mother is seriously
ill at her home in Virginia, suffer
ing an attack of pneumonia. Mrs.
McMurdo is 92 years of age.
L. R. Rambo, former manager of
Columbia Basin Electric Co-op, was
a business visitor for several days
this week, coming down from Spo
kane. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Zimmer
man of Portland are" visiting at the
home of Mrs. Zimmerman's parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Orain Wright, on Rhea
creek.
Mr. and Mrs. Orville Smith and
Jim expect, to spend the Fourth
with friends at Couer de Aler.r.
Idaho.
Woodrow Tucker returned home
Friday from Pendleton where he
recently underwent an operation for
appendicitis.

cialist of Pendleton will be at the

Mrs. Lucy E. Rodgers, county
school superintendent, is in Corvall's
for a six weeks' summer school
course.

Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Moore were
pleasantly surprised by a visit for
several days this week from Miss
Ani Lee, principal of the grade
school at Champaigne, 111., and Mrs.
J. R. Hornbrook and two children
of Marshall, 111. The ladies are
nieces of Mr. Moore who has not
seen them for 20 years.
. Harold Baker left for Portland to
spend a fevA, days with his mother,
who is there taking care of Mr.
Baker's mother who is ill.
A baby boy was born to Mr. and
Mrs. Robert McLouth at Pendleton
hospital the end 1f the week. Both
mother and babe are doing nicel; .
Miss Hazel Tyler, formerly of
Boardman, and Edward Warner,
both of Arlington, were united in
marriage in Boise, Idaho, Saturday,
June 28. Mrs. Warner's mother, Mrs.
Grace Forbes, accompanied them.
Mr. and Mrs. Dick Green, Mr. and
Mrs. Bud Ross, and Mr. and Mrs.
Art Gillespie and children of Cal
ifornia arrived to spend the week
end with Mr. and Mrs. Z. J. Gilles
pie, going to Hermiston Monday
where the boys have employment
at the munition's depot Art and

last Saturday. It is also rumored
Mr. and Mrs. Russell Miller are
