A group of men met Sunday in the Legion hall to complete arrange ments. The membership will be lim ited to ten members, and a Taylor craft trainer has been ordered and will be delivered in a few weeks. Next Sunday the organization will be completed by the election of of ficers, and at that time agents will be here with a plane. Present mem bers are Garland Swanson, L. Beck ner, Jack Farris, Frank Holub, and Irvin Anderson of lone and Orville Smith and Harold Hill of Heppner. The instructor will be furnished by the company from which the plane was purchased. The lone public library has recent ly added a number of new books for adults and children. Mrs. Clyde Nichols of Sumner, Wash., arrived Friday for a visit with her brothers, C. W. and J. E. Swan son. She left Tuesday evening. Mrs. Clel Rae entertained Monday after noon with a coffee party in honor of her aunt, Mrs. Nichols. Mrs. J. E. Swanson entertained a group of relatives and friends Tues day afternoon in honor of Mrs. Nichols. The Legion auxiliary is holding a Mother's Tea at the Legion hall on Saturday. David Baker spent the week end in Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Blake and son of Heppner and Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Blake and Mr. and Mrs. Ted Blake and Arleta were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lindsay of Mor gan Sunday. Fostor Odom spent the week end in Salem with his parents, Mr. and Heppner Mrs. A. T. Odom. His father is a patient in a hospital there. Carl Troedson of King City, Cal, left for his home Saturday after a week's visit here with his sister, Mrs. H. V. Smouse. Roy Lindstrom returned Tuesday after a few days visit in the valley. Harry Ring, an enrollee in Na tional Guard, stationed at Fort Lew is, arrived Sunday for a three-day visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Ring. Mrs. Ivar Nelson of Gooseberry was called to Portland last Friday by the death of her sister. Wallace Matthews of Morgan is laid off work because of an injury sustained while employed on the Griffith elevator. He injured a fin ger. The high school students enjoyed their annual weiner roast Tuesday evening at the French Burroughs ranch on Rhea creek. The lone library board met and ordered more new books. They also ordered "Child Life" magazine for the little folks. PINE CITY NEWS Daley-Doherty Rites At Pendleton Interest By BERNICE WATTENBURGER Mary Agnes Daley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Daley, was married to William J. Doherty on Thursday morning at 6 o'clock at St. Mary's church in Pendleton. The wedding party enjoyed breakfast at the Pendeton hotel following the ceremony. After a month's trip in southern California and New Mex ico they will be at home on the Doherty ranch at Alpine. The bride wore an aqua blue traveling suit with pink accessories and carried gardenias. The bridesmaid, Miss Patricia Daley, wore a navy blue suit with yellow accessories. The Lena grange held a dance at Lena Saturday night with a large number from the creek attending. Pine City school was closed Fri day to attend the May Dav festivity and track meet at Heppner. Pine City did exceptionally well. Burl Wattenburger. Jr., received first in high jump, third in ball throw and fourth in broad jump. Bobby Gren vold was first in ball throw, second in shot put, second in broad jump and third in high jump. Bobby Schiller placed third in ball throw, and Frances Finch was second in ball throw in the girls division. Mrs. May Chisholm and daughter Margean of Walla Walla and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Wattenburger and son Freddie of Pasco and Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Van Orsdale of Pendle ton spent Monday fishing with the E. B. Wattenburger home. Kathleen Daley and Billy Healy were confirmed Sunday in the Ca tholic church in Heppner. Miss Helen Knowles of Heppner spent the week end with Betty Finch. Mr. and Mrs. R. E. McGreer re turned from a three days business trip in Portland. Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Brewster of Spokane spent Monday night with their daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. R. E. McGreer. Mrs. Harry Bartholomew and daughter and son were calling at the Charles Bartholomew ranch Monday. Mrs. Bartholomew's son and daughter are visiting from Cal ifornia. He will leave Tues day for Toppenish, Wash., thence to Camp Murray. Carey Hastings came home from Lewiston, Idaho, Saturday, where he has been shearing sheep. Albany to Hold First West State Ram Sale Purebred sheep breeders of Linn and Benton counties, in cooperation with the Linn County Livestock as sociation, have announced a purebred ram sale to be held at Albany in Bryant park, Friday, August 1, 1941. This is the first time that such a sale has been undertaken in western Oregon, although they have been conducted successfully for years east of the mountains. . E. F.
