Official Paper for Morrow County
Mattress Making
Schedule Announced
The cotton mattress program,
through which eligible families may
obtain the necessary cotton ticking
for making cotton mattresses, has
been accepted in Morrow county
and application blanks sent to a
large number of families in the
county.
The cotton mattress program as
inaugurated by the U. S. department
of agriculture has a fourfold pur
pose. First, it is designed to pro
vide cotton materials for making
mattresses to rural families whose
economic condition prevents them
from purchasing the mattresses
needed in their homes. Second, the
mattress program provides demon
strations through which rural peo
ple learn how to make cotton mat
tresses and otherwise improve their
homes. Third, the program marks
another step in the move to expand
tne use of cotton and thus help to
reduce the cotton surplus.
Oregon has a special interest in
the utilization of surplus cotton as
small seeds raised in Oregon are
marketed in the south. Fourth, the
cotton mattress program should con
tribute to the health and comfort of
the families.
The cotton mattress program is
sponsored jointly by three agencies
of the United States department of
agriculture the extension service,
the Agricultural Adjustment admin
itration, and the Surplus Marketing
administration. In Oregon the Farm
Security administration is cooperat
ing in the project.
Any family in Morrow county is
eligible to participate in the cotton
mattress program and will qualify
for one or more mattresses if the
net income of the family is $500 or
less per year for a family of one
to four persons. Above four family

FORD TRACTOR
WITH
Ferguson System
Think of attaching or de
taching unit implements,
including the row cultivator,
in less than a minute! Think
of plowing easily and quickly
in tight places, close to fences t
Think of being able to plow
28" wide with a tractor so light
it practically does away, with
sou packing. With its finger
tip control of hydraulically
controlled wheel-less imple
ments the new Ford tractor
is amazingly easy to operate.
In plowing you set your plow
depth (it is automatically
maintained), lower your
plows by the finger-tip con
trol, raise them the same way
at the end of the furrow.
You won't believe the
things this new Ford tractor
can do until you see it
working. Come on in today.
We'll show you something!
