They have become scatter ed throughout the country in var ious training camps, and they face an uncertain future with breaking of home ties. These boys stand ready to bear the brunt of battle, if need be, to protect the interests of their country which means the security of the homes and businesses of all citizens in the land. In immediate compen sation they receive small pay. They are entitled at least to expression of appreciation from those who may never have to place their lives in jeopardy in defense of country. In uniting our country for war it is not enough to merely send the young men into training as sailors, soldiers or aviators. Those "be hind the lines" must help the mor ale of these young men in every possible way. The little gifts from home help. Letters from friends are deeply appreciated. Good books and magazines are always mighty ac ceptable. Those of us at home know there are going to be more taxes to pay, and that we will be asked to dig deeply into savings to buy bonds and stamps by means of which the defense bill will be paid. And should a prolonged war be faced, it may become necessary not only to sac rifice luxuries but to curtail neces sities to stay the iron heel of dic tators who have brought to earth the ungodly warfare which contem plates killing of noncombatants, a spectacle now seen across the wa ters. These sacrifices will be made willingly to establish the rights of free men.
