Mrs. Agnes Curran entertained her duplicate club at Mrs. Lucas Place Tuesday night The winning team was composed of Mrs. Dave Wilson, Mrs. Richard Lawrence, Mrs. Orville Smith and Mrs. Earl Gor don. Thursday evening Mrs. Curran will be hostess to another duplicate club at the Lucas Place. Two tables will be in play, with refreshments served at the close of play. Mrs. Eliza Barratt of Salem arriv ed Tuesday for a visit at the home of her son, Garnet Barratt. The Past Matron's club met Mon day evening at Mrs. L. E. Dick's home. Cards were played, with Mrs. Gene Ferguson winning high score, and Mrs. Loyal Parker low, and re freshments were served at the eve ning's end. The Bookworms met Tuesday eve ning at the home of Mrs. J. O. Tur ner. Lera Crawford reviewed the book, "Random Harvest," by J. A. Hilton. Members of the American Legion Auxiliary met Tuesday afternoon at Mrs. Anna Bayless' home for sew ing, finishing dresses for child wel fare in Portland. Mr. Charles Cox returned to Heppner Sunday from Portland, where he has been with Mrs. Cox since an operation was performed on her. She will return to her home as soon as she is able. Mrs. Bill Cox and Mrs. Norbert Peavy entertained their bridge club this afternoon at the Cox home. Mr. Robert Thompson has been ordered to bed again, and Mrs. Mike Bibby is attending him as his nurse. Mrs. Charles Thomson returned Saturday from several months' va cation spent in California. ' Mr. and Mrs. Robert Knox left today for Portland and Eugene where they will spend the week end. Mr. and Mrs. Phil Mahoney went to Pendleton Saturday, where they meeting of his firm, and they visit ed with Mr. and Mrs. John McRae. Mrs. Agnes Curran ha3 as guests at her home last Saturday her sister-in-law, Mrs. Charles Colleary of Vancouver, and her niece, Mrs. Walter Lassila and daughter of Bat tle Ground, Wash. Mr., and Mrs. Harvey Miller drove to Condon Monday evening where they attended a chamber of com merce dinner. They were guests of honor, as well as Mr. and Mrs. Giles French of Sherman county, and Sen ator and Mrs. W. Steiwer of Wheel er county. Each gentleman spoke and Ernie Fatland, former speaker of the house of representatives, act ed as toastmaster for the occasion. Mrs. Annie Schaffer invited her bridge club to luncheon Wednesday at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hynd, at Cecil. Mrs. Ray Ferguson, Mrs. .Jap Crawford, Mrs. Steve Thompson, Mrs. Harold Buhman and Mrs. B. C. Pinckney motored to Pendleton Wednesday for luncheon and bridge at the home of Mrs. Hugh Gaily. Mrs. Joe Belanger of Pendleton was also a guest. Mrs. Clarence Rosewall entertain ed the Kensington club at her home Monday afternoon. Sewing occupied the members during the afternoon, and refreshments were served. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Rippee and children moved to Heppner Wed nesday from Pilot Rock, where they have been the last several months. Mr. Rippee will act as assistant pa trolman of the state highway, and the family will occupy the home they own here. Mrs. L. E. Dick entertained mem bers of her duplicate club at her home Wednesday afternoon at a dessert bridge. The Episcopal auxiliary met to day at the parish house with Mrs. A. D. McMurdo and Mrs. W. H. Cleveland as hostesses. Mrs. Percy Hughes presided, and Mrs. Hanson Hughes was chairman of the United Thank Offering service. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Morgan of Salem are spending about a month here and are living at the Halton apartments. The Officers' club of the Eastern Star will sponsor a movie show, "Lit tle Nelly Kelly," starring Judy Gar land and George Murphy, to be shown at the Star theater April 2 and 3. Tickets will be sold by members and will also be for sale at Humphreys Drug store.
