Astronomy Pictures
Shown at Lexington

Mr. and Mrs. Harry Johnson of
Brown Institute in Walla Walla
were at the local school Wednesday
morning showing slide pictures of
astronomy.
Sam McMillan spent Tuesday and
Wednesday here from Portland.
George Tucker spent several days
last week in Portland and is visiting
in Pine Grove this week.
S. D. Frad of Iowa is visiting his
neice Mrs. Arnold Pieper.
Mrs. Claude Hill and children of
Redmond are visiting her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. S. G. McMillan.
Mrs. Ralph Scott, Doris, Erma and
May Rauch spent Friday in The
Dalles.
Doris Lane has gone to Arlington
to reside with her sister, Mrs. Ralph
Phillips.
Pendleton visitors Saturday were
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Marquardt,
Mrs. Harvey Bauman, Mrs. Alex
Hunt, Mrs. Grace Turner and Cath
erine.
A. M. Edwards and E. S. Leather-
man were visitors in Pasco, Wash
ington Saturday.
Mrs. Lonnie Henderson and baby
Laddie Gene have returned home
from Pendleton.
The monthly grange social was
held at the hall Saturday evening.
Old time music was enjoyed to the
music of Dan Way's orchestra.
Mrs. John Miller entertained with
a card party at her home Saturday
evening.
Kenneth Peck spent last week at
home from his studies in Corvallis.
Mrs. June Schc-onover and child
ren were dinner guests at the George
Allyn home Sunday.
Irvin Rauch returned to his studies
at Corvallis Sunday.
A. H. Nelson has returned to the
valley after spending some time at
his ranch here.
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Whillock, Helen
Breshears and Everett Crump at
tended "Gone With the Wind" in
Pendleton Sunday.
Ed Warner of Pilot Rock who has
been visiting relatives here returned
home Sunday.
J. L. Yeager of Heppner is staying
at the home of his daughter, Mrs.
Burt Peek.
Mrs. Laurel Ruhl and sons re
turned home Monday from a visit
at the Gene Gray home in Stan
field. Mr. and Mrs. Glover Peck and
family spent the week end in Port
land where they had the cast re
placed on Dorothy's leg. She broke
the former cast last week.
Supper guests at the Ralph Jack
son home Friday evening were Mrs.
Laura Scott, Mrs. Melissa Stone
braker, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Scott
and sons, and Ed Warner of Pilot
Rock.
Sunday guests at the Bert Peck
home were Mr. and Mrs. Millard
Nolan and family, Mr. and Mrs. Har
old Peck and family of Heppner,
Harvey Yeager of Spokane, Ralph
and Ora Yeager of Yakima. The
latter three are brothers of Mrs.
Peck.
Miss Esther Thompson is staying
at the Elva Ruhl home.
Mr. and Mrs. Merritt Gray, Mrs.
Lucy Pointer and Jimmy Davis vis
ited at the Gene Gray home in Her
miston Sunday.
Mrs. Nettie Davis is visiting
daughters in Toppenish and Port
land. Mrs. Mazel Gale and daughter of
Portland are guests at the home of
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sylvannus
Wright.
WILLOWS GRANGE NEWS

Morrow County Pomona grange
will meet in regular session on Sat
urday, April 5, with Lexington as
the entertaining grange.
A good program has been pre
pared by the lecturer to which the
public is invited. Time, 1:30.
Willows Grange will not hold its
regular meeting on April 5 as it
conflicts with the Pomona date. Of
ficers wishing a perfect attendance
record will receive full time credit
if in attendance at Lexington on
the 5th. Let's be there.
All candidates in the county wish
ing the fifth degree will have an
opportunity of seeing it exemplified
in the evening at 8 o'clock.

Glee, Band Concert
Enjoyed at lone

Mrs. Hugh Smith, assisted by Mrs.
C. W. Swanson and Mrs. Erling
Thompson, entertained the members I
of the Womens Topic club and in
vited guests at the Smith home Sat
urday afternoon. Four tables of
bridge were in play and prizes were
won by Mrs. Frank Lundell and
Mrs. Ella Davidson. Others present
were Mesdames Ted Blake, Werner
Rietmann, Omar Rietmann, E. R.
Lundell, Cleo Drake, J. E. Swan
son, Carl F. Feldman, Dorr G. Mason,
Harry .Yarnell, Clyde Denney, M. E.
Cotter, Louis Bergevin, and Mildred
Lundell.
Mrs. Bert Mason and son, Bert,
Jr., returned Thursday from a visit
in Spokane, and the young man
departed Saturday for Corvallis to
resume his studies at O. S. C.
Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Yamell of
Caldwell, Idaho, are the parents of
a seven pound baby girl, born there
on March 22, according to word re
ceived by Mr. Yarnell's parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Harry Yarnell.
E. J. Bristow made a flying trip
to Nampa, Idaho, over the week end
to visit his son Edmond Bristow
and family.
Mrs. Clara Kincaid is ill at her
home here. A physician was called
to attend her on Sunday and she is
now improving.
Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Swales are
the parents of a baby girl, born at

onomics conference at La Grande
on Saturday. Helen Lindsay drove
them over.
Mrs. Hugh Smith, chairman of the
lone branch of the Morrow County
Red Cross went to Heppner Tues
day and secured the material on
which local groups will work. The
work will be given out Wednesday
afternoon.
Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Matthews
went to Roseburg Wednesday to
move their household goods to Mor
gan. Mrs. D. R. Long went Saturday to
St. Martin's Springs, hoping to ben
efit from the treatment. She plans
to be gone a week, and her daughter,
Mrs. Lyons, is keeping house in her
absence.
William Burk and Errett Hummel
attended the School Masters club at
Irrigon Monday evening.
A large crowd attended the glee
club and band concert and pie sup
per at the schoolhouse Friday night,
and were much pleased with the
progress shown by the children un
der the leadership of Frank Jan
zen. Besides group numbers, several
vocal and instrumental numbers

were presented. Total receipts were
$59.40, with about $7.00 expenses.
The highest price paid for one pie
was $2.00 and the lowest (in the
grade school group) was twenty
cents. The receipts were divided
between a fund to be built up for
uniforms for the band, and general
student body expenses.
The high chool will present a
mystery play on April 4, and will
hold open house and present an op
eretta later in the month.
Mrs. Leonard Carlson attended a
conference for 4-H 'members in La
Grande on Friday. She is teaching
home-making to a group of eight
girls.
Broadcasts from KUJ, Pendleton,
are well received by radio fans

Mrs. Harvey Ring spent the week
end at Beaverton, the guest of her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. R. Rowell.
Mrs. Laxton McMurray spent sev
eral days in Pendleton the last of
the week. She consulted an eye spe
cialist and attended a meeting and
banquet of the auxiliary of the
Spanish-American war veterans, of
which she is a new member.
Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Ely and fam
ily of Boardman spent Sunday at

Fred W. Griffith of Portland spent
Sunday with his mother, Mrs. P. J.
Linn. He went to Hermiston Mon
day morning in the interest of or
ganized labor.
Martin Bauernfeind, Morgan mer
chant, attended a banquet and en
tertainment in The Dalles Tuesday
evening, given for the Texaco deal
ers in this territory.
Mrs. Erling Thompson was hon
ored with a shower at the home of
Mrs. Erret E. Hummel last Wednes
day afternoon. Mrs. Hummel was
assisted by Mrs. Garland Swanson,
Mrs. J. E. Swanson, and Mrs. Wm.
Burk. More than fifty guests were
present and Mrs. Thompson receiv
ed many beautiful gifts. A short
program was enoyed, consisting of
a reading by Betty Lou Lindsay, and
one by Eileen Sperry, and two
numbers, "Braum's Lullaby" and
"Slumber Boat" by a quartet com
posed of Freda Ball, June Griffith,
Doris Palmateer and Charlotte
Sperry.
Wm. Hayes enjoyed a visit last
week from his nephew, Max Hayes,
whose home is in Texas. From here
he went to the Midway islands.
