Robathan officiating. SOCIETY CHIT-CHAT By JUNE SMITH Mrs. Richard Lawrence was hos tess to her duplicate club yesterday afternoon at the .Lucas Place. The affair was a dessert bridge with Mrs. C. W. McNamer, Mrs. Fred Lucas, Mrs. W. O. Bayless and Mrs. Lawrence high team, Mrs. W. C. Hayes and children of Portland are visiting Mrs. Hayes' parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. B. Nick- erson, this week. Mrs. L. D. Tibbies entertained the Wednesday club at her home at des sert bridge yesterday. High score was won by Mrs. Jap Crawford and second by Mrs. J. G. Thomson, Jr. Miss Nona Howell, daughter of Mr. Pirl Howell of Heppner, and Mr. Kenneth A, McKenzie, son of Mrs. Elsie McKenzie of Eugene, were married Saturday, March 8, in Lewiston, Idaho. The Rev. W. E. Caughlan performed the ceremony at the Methodist parsonage there, with Harold Pace, of Lewiston and Mrs. Caughlan as witnesses. Miss Howell wore a navy blue ensemble with pink accessories. The couple returned to Heppner Monday, and will make their home here until summer, which they will spend in Eugene. Mark Merrill left Wednesday for Portland, where he will stay until Thursday evening. Mrs. Dave Wilson entertained her duplicate club at Mrs. Lucas' Place Tuesday evening. The winning team was composed of Mrs. Wilson, Mrs. Phil Mahoney, Mrs. Harold Cohn and Mrs. Agnes Curran. Refresh ments were served at the close of play. In honor of Mrs. Harriet Mahoney, who plans to leave soon for a visit in California, Mrs. Phil Mahoney entertained six tables, of bridge at her home last Monday afternoon. Mrs. L. E. Dick won high score, Mrs. Glen Jones second, and Mrs. Claude Graham consolation. Refreshments were served at the close of play. Ladies Night will be this evening at the Elks hall, according to Nor ton Lundell, program chairman. Mrs. Norton Lundell and Mrs. Earle Bry ant are to be hostesses, and pinochle and bridge will be in play for the ladies. A clam feed is promised for the evening, and there will be danc ing. There will also be a door prize. The Episcopal auxiliary met this j afternoon at the Parish House with j Mrs. Joe Nys and Mrs. Josie Jones as hostesses. Mrs. C. W. McNamer entertained the contract bridge club at a lunch eon Saturday at the Christian church. Later bridge was played at her home with Mrs. L. E. Bisbee re ceiving high and Mrs. Fred Lucas low for club members, and Mrs. F. B. Nickerson high and Mrs. S. M. Morgan low for guests. Others pre sent were Mrs. J. O. Rasmus, Mrs. W. P. Mahoney, Mrs. Mark Merrill, Mrs. W. O. Bayless, Mrs. Frank Wil kinson, Mrs. Joe Nys, Mrs. W. E. Pruyn and Mrs. W. O. Dix. Mr. and Mrs. John G. Clouston of Lakeview have been transferred to Pendleton this last week. Mrs. Clouston is a sister of Mrs. Loyal Parker, and Mr. Clouston is asso ciated with the forest service. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Jones and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Blake entertained ten couples at a cafeteria supper at the Jones home last Sunday eve ning. Door prizes were won by Mrs. Ted Smith of lone for the ladies and L. E. Dick of Heppner for the men. Mr. and Mrs. Orvlile Smith en tertained the Kennel club at their home for supper last Sunday eve ning. Three tables of bridge were in play, with Mrs. Vawter Parker winning high score for the ladies, and Phil Mahoney high for the men. Adah night, honoring the past Adahs of the Eastern Star, will be a feature of the meeting of that or ganization planned for tomorrow evening at the hall. Refreshments will be served. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Ferguson drove to Portland Friday to attend the funeral of D. R. Thompson of Port land. Mr. Thompson was the father of Enid and Virginia Thompson, who visit here with the Fergusons fre quently. Pirl Howell left Tuesday "for Port land to attend a sales meeting. He has completed his quota of selling for January and February and is eligible for a new Ford car to be given away by the company. The Bookworms met Tuesday at Mrs. J. G. Thomson, Jr.'s home. "The Giant Joshua," by Maurine Whipple, was reviewed by Mrs. L. E. Dick. A turkey dinner was served to 18 bovs and their coach at the basket ball banquet given the team by their mothers at the Pinckney home last Friday. Mrs. B. C. Pinckney, Mrs. Ray Ferguson, Mrs. Garnet Barratt, Mrs. Robert Knox, Mrs. John Sku zeski and Mrs. Ray Drake gave the dinner, and ice cream was furnish ed by Claude Cox. The table was decorated with pur ple and gold, the school colors, with, spring daffodils, and basketball placecards made by Claudine Drake. Each boy gave a toast The American Legion auxiliary met Monday evening at the home of Mrs. Gene Ferguson. It was de cided to postpone the birthday din ner planned for Friday because of the illness of Mrs.t Charles Cox, the district president.
