ing her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.
Earl Warner.
Ralph Jackson motored to Port
land last week. He was accompan
ied home by his son Kenneth who
spent the week end here.
Mrs. Clarence Carmichael visited
in Portland last week.
D. W. Glasgow and R. B. Rice
were Spokane visitors Wednesday.
Services will be conducted at the
Christian church Sunday evening
by George Tucker. The' attendance
has been good the past few Sun
days, and everyone is invited to
attend.
Mrs. Grace Turner gave a farewell
party for E. H. Turner Friday eve
ning. Out-of-town guests were Mr.
and Mrs. Albert Lindstrom, Mr. and
Mrs. John Troedson and Carl Troed
son. Mr. Turner is leaving for Sum
merville. S. G. McMillan who has been vis
iting in Portland arrived home Saturday.
Sunday guests at the Art Hunt
home were Mr. and Mrs. Earl Hunt
and daughter of Heppner.
George Tucker is moving into the
Ira Lewis house.

George Franks Was
Long lone Resident

Election of officers was held at the
Union Sunday School last Sunday.
Erling Thompson was elected sup
erintendent; Charlotte Sperry, sec
retary; Mr. Erling Thompson, pian
ist, and Gilbert Haller, song leader.
Mrs. Zinter was elected teacher of
the Bible class with Mr. Pettyjohn
as her assistant.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Baker and
familv snent the week end in Port
land. Mrs. Erling Thompson ac
companied them and visited her par
ents at Salem.
Mrs. J. E. Swanson and daughter
Eva and Mrs. Garland Swanson and
children are spending a few days
in Portland and Salem.
Mr. and Mrs. Howard Eubanks
are moving out of the Park hotel
which they have been operating this
winter into the Ida Moore house.
P. N. G. club of the Rebekah lodge
will give a dinner Friday evening
of this week at the I. O. 0. F. hall.
Dinner will be served at 6:30 so that
those who wish can attend the smok
er at the high school. Any who wish
may play cards or other games after
supper.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Peterson have
moved to Hermiston where Mr. Pet
erson has employment in the Gamble
store.
Word was received in lone Sun
day of the death in Pendleton of
George E. Franks Monday night.
His son-in-law and daughter, Mr.
and Mrs. Emmett Botts, went to
Pendleton Tuesday to assist in ar
rangements for the funeral. Mr.
Franks was for many years city
marshal of lone, but had lately been
making his home with his daughter,
Mrs. Hobart Helms, in Pendleton.
Olive Petteys of Lexington is
spending a few days here with her
aunt, Mrs. Frank Engelman.
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Lovell of Es
tacada and their son and daughter-
in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Lovell,
who were married last Thursday,
visited here Saturday and Sunday.
They are former residents of lone,
and had been visiting Mrs. Lovell's
sister at Hermiston, and her bro
ther, Lonnie Ritchie, at Heppner.
Fred Nichoson and Walter G. Ro
berts left Tuesday by auto for Port
land where they plan to remain for
a few days.
The Union Missionary society will
meet Thursday of this week. Hos
tesses are Mrs. Matthew Gordon
and Mrs. J. H. Bryson.
C. E. Shaver of Bend is a guest

here recuperating from an appen
dectomy, left the first of the week

Mrs. Walter Dobyns is staying in
town, caring for her mother, Mrs.
Ida Peterson, while the latterrs
nurse, Mrs. Emily Peck, is visiting
relatives m Portland.
Rev. M. B. Clark of Heppner will
lead a devotional meeting at the
BaDtist church on Tuesday evenine.
School district No. 5 at Morgan,
voted. 12-10 to stay out of the lone
district, with, which it had been re
organized. The children from this
district are now being transported
to lone.

time dance on Saturday, March 8.
