Mr. Troedson said it was their first visit to town in three months (or thereabouts). Lots of moisture at his place, and nros- pects for the new crop seemed good. Guests at Heppner hotel this week included P. C. McGrew, W. T. White and Carl O. Kohler, Jr., all from the Spokane office of the Soil Con servation service, and Palmer Bue of Salem, with the state highway department. Dr. J. P. Stewart, Eyesight Spe cialist of Pendleton will be at the HEPPNER HOTEL on WEDNES DAY, FEBRUARY 19th. Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Glasgow and children, Darrel and Gweneth, drove to Spokane last week end, return ing home Wednesday. SEVENTY AT LODGE MEET Seventy Oddfellows and Rebekahs attended a get-together. meeting at Hardman Tuesday evening, includ ing representatives from Hardman, Heppner, Lexington, lone and Mor gan lodges. "Eats" and dancing were enjoyed after the lodge session. Next Thursday, 'the 20th, a get-to-j gether meeting' will be- held at Lex ington with work in the initiatory degree.. At least one get-together meeting a' month is being held by Oddfellows orders at some point in the county. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Green went to Portland Sunday to remain until today while Mr. Green attended a convention of hardware dealers. Mrs. Marvin R. ATTENDS MEDICAL MEETING Dr. A. D. McMurdo motored to Pendleton Tuesday evening and at tended a banquet meeting of the Umatilla County Medical society, held at the Pendleton hotel. Dr. Carl Johannesson, x-ray specialist of Walla Walla, was the principal speaker, talking on his specialty. Go ing with Dr. McMurdo were Mrs, McMurdo, who visited at the home of her sister, Mrs. M. A. Leach, and the Misses Helen Doherty and Betty Robinson. In their latest game on Wed nesday last week the All Stars de feated the Hermiston townies at the latter place, 38-36. The Pettyjohn team, , All Star second squad, will play the Heppner FFA's in the pre liminary to the Mustang-Fossil game here tomorrow night. . "H" CLUB ASSEMBLY SET - This Friday the "H" club1 will give an assembly put on by mem bers who have not been initiated into the club. It will be part of the initiation for this association of ath letes who have made letters in Heppner high. After the assembly there will be only two or three more groups that haven't given their assembly. A lack of display of the Flag of the United States was evident on the Twelfth. Sam Sato and Herbert Schunk turned out for the raising of the Flag at the City pole. Sam Sato's Hyenas were well rep resented at the last troop meeting. Except for one other patrol leader, the rest were very conspicuous by their absence. Plans are under way for an inter patrol contest. The main feature of the contest will be the building of patrol dens. The patrol with the best den receives an extra number of points in the contest Committeeman Ray Kinne was a visitor at the meeting. We appre ciate his interest. TO CHECK REPORTS William F. Toomey; field repre sentative for the State Unemploy ment Compensation commission, will be in the Umatilla county district beginning this week to confer with employers with regard to completion of pay roll reports and tax payments for 1940. With new features of the law expected to take effect soon, Mr. Toomey will be prepared to an swer questions regarding experience rating and other new measures. While in this district Mr. Toomey will make his headquarters at the State Employment office and at the Temple hotel in Pendleton. SLATE VALENTINE PARTY Ruth chapter 35, O. E.
