Home on Vacation
By MRS. ELMER GRIFFITH
Mrs. Margaret Rietmann is ill at
her farm home near lone. Her son,
Robert, who is on vacation in Ha
waii, has been notified of her illness.
Mr. and Mrs. Erret Hummel and
little son left on Saturday for La
Grande where they will spend
Christmas with Mrs. Hummel's par
ents. Miss Linea Troedson arrived home
on Thursday to spend Christmas
with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John
Troedson. She is a teacher in the
Girls Polytechnic in Portland.
Clarence Harris, who works in the
Standard station in lone, left on
Saturday for his home in Arbuckle,
Calif., where he will spend Christ
mas week with relatives. Mr. and
Mrs. Howard Dunn accompanied
him as far as Arbuckle on their way
to southern California to visit Mr.
Dunn's parents.
Ted Palmateer, a freshman at Or
egon State, arrived home on Friday
to spend Christmas with his parents,

Mr. and Mrs. Bert Palmateer at Mor
gan. E. H. Turner of Sparta arrived on
Saturday evening to spend Christ
mas with his daughter, Mrs. Albert
Lindstrom of Morgan.
Mr. and Mrs. William Burke are
spending the school vacation at Red
mond with Mrs. Burke's parents.
Lois Ring is spending the vacation
with relatives near Portland.
The A. F. & A. M. of lone have
postponed their installation because
of the flu epidemic. The O. E. S.
will hold their installation on Fri
day night, Jan. 3.
Roland, small son of Mr. and Mrs.
O. G. Haguewood, is suffering from
a slight attack of infantile paraly
sis. Mr. and Mrs. Charles O'Connor,
Sr., have been suffering from se
vere attacks of influenza.
Mrs. Fred Mankin returned on
Wednesday from Portland where
she had been receiving medical at
tention. Her mother, Mrs. , Dwight
Misner of Thornton, Wash., is still
with her at their farm home near
lone.
Miss Katherine Griffith, a junior
at O. C. E. at Monmouth, is spend
ing the Christmas vacation with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Grif
fith at Morgan.
Miss Jane Huston, who is a stu
dent at University of Oregon, arriv
ed home on Friday. She has as her
guest another student, Miss Edpa
Crowe whose home is in Korea.
Paul Smouse came home on Fri
day from Eugene, where he is at
tending the university, to spend
Christmas with his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Henry Smouse. Fred Fuchner
of Grants Pass is his guest. Ken
neth, who is employed in Portland,
will arrive home on Tuesday, but
their sister, Mrs. Orlo Martin of
Moro, will be unable to spend
Christmas with them because her
children have the chicken pox.
Miss Ruth Crawford, who is a
senior at Marylhurst college in Port
land, arrived home on Friday to
spend her vacation with her par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Crawford.
John Yoohees of Portland drove her
to lone.
The social club of the O. E. S. will
meet December 27 at the home of
Mrs. A. A. McCabe.
The members of the classes of '31,
'33, '34, and '35 will hold a reunion
in the I. O. O. F. building in lone
Friday evening.
Clifford Carlson who attends the
University of Oregon is home to
spend Christmas with his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Carlson.
Mrs. Minnie Forbes is spending
her vacation at Oakdale, Calif., vis
iting her son-in-law and daughter,
Mr. and Mrs. John Osteen and fam-
iiy.
Harry Ring is home to spend
Christmas with his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Harvey Ring. He is a member
of the national guard stationed at
Camp Murray and has an eleven
day furlough. .
Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Bryson have
returned from a trip to Portland.
Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Yarnell have
gone to Caldwell, Idaho, where Mr.
Yarnell has accepted a position with
an oil co-op. They visited here at
the home of Mr. Yarnell's parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Yarnell. for a
few days. They formerly lived at.
Newberg.
Mr. and Mrs. Ted W. Blake made
a week-end trip to Ridgefield, Wn.,
where he delivered the skates which
have been in use at th lone rink.
They visited in Vancouver and
Portland before returning home.
Thelma Nelson, a freshman at U.
of O., is spending the holidays with
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ivar Nel
son in Gooseberry. Her sister, Miss
Elaine, who teaches in the high
school at Umapine is also home.
. Helen Lindsay is spending Christ
mas with her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
James Lindsay. He is a student at
E. O. C. E. at La Grande.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Nord of
Vancouver arrived Tuesday to spend
Christmas with Mrs. Nord's son, Ray
Barnett and family.
Holiday guests at the A. F. Pal
mateer home are Mrs. Palmateer's
brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and
Mrs. Henry Beers of Estacada.
Mrs. Jack Wagner came over from
Boardman Friday to visit her daugh
ter, Mrs. Howard Dunn.
