r LEXINGTON NEWS Christmas Pageant Enjoyed at Lexington By MARGARET SCOTT Mrs. Harry Dinges returned home from Madras the last of the week after visiting at the home of her daughter Mrs. Gerald Acklen. Carla Whillick and June Steagall attended a Christmas party at the Catholic rectory in Heppner Sunday afternoon. The grade school pupils presented a Christmas pageant at the Christian church Sunday evening after which Santa Claus passed out treats to all the youngsters present. Helen Breshears and Everett Crump were Sunday evening guests at the Carl Whillock home. Florence Gray of Stanfield is visit ing at the Laurel Ruhl home. Several local persons are confined to their homes by flu. Members of the Christian En deavor society enjoyed a party at the Congregational Ladies Aid room Monday evening. Refreshments of cake and coffee were served. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Phillips and daughter of Arlington visited friends here Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Foos, Mr. and Mrs. Amend and Miss Chambers are spending the holidays in Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Gleason are visiting in Union. Bartholomew of Salt Lake City, Utah, are spending Christmas vacation with Mr. Bar tholomew's parents, Mr. and Mrs, C. H. Bartholomew. Starting the new year he is to be transferred to California for a few months. A number of folks on the creek are ill with the flu. Guy Moore and Gordon O'Brien came home from O. S. C. to spend the Christmas vacation with their parents. Mrs. Russell Moore gave a pinochle card party Saturday evening. Mr. Robert McGreer and Mrs. Berneice Wattenburger received high. Mrs. Margaret McGreer and Clayt Ayres were low. Lovely refreshments were served at midnight. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Smith and John Smith and Mr. and Mrs. Clair Caldwell of Irrigon attended the card party at the Russell Moore home. They were overnight guests and spent Sunday. Frank Marlow spent Sunday at The Dalles visiting his wife who is in the hospital there. Mrs. Klitz left Tuesday for La Grande to send the holidays with her son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Noel Klitz. Ralph Skoubo, who is attending Oregon State college, is home for fhe Christmas vacation. Kenneth Ransin arrived home Sunday to spend two weeks. He is in the army at Fort Lewis. An experiment in forage production believed to be unique in Oregon has been started on the new red soils experimental area in this county by the O. S. C. experiment station. A field has been laid out in checker-board fashion with strips of subterranean and white clover planted across the field in one direction. Standard pasture mixtures will also be planted in this manner in the spring of 1941.
