LEXINGTON NEWS
Gene Gray Injured
While Chopping Hay

Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Hunt and
family motored to Portland Thurs
day for a short vacation. Doris
Scott was in charge of the store
during their absence.
Mr. and Mrs. Louis Marquardt re
turned home Thursday from Port
land.
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Valentine and
family are visiting relatives in Mis
souri.
Dean Hunt spent Friday night at
the Dan, Way home.
Kenneth Jackson and Edna Pie
per spent the Thanksgiving holi
days at their homes here from their
studies in Portland.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hayes and
daughter of Corvallis visited here
and at Heppner last week end.
Mrs. Sylvannus Wright has re
turned home after visiting in Port
land and The Dalles.
Mr. and Mrs. Ned Gleason were
dinner guests at the Louis Foos
home Monday evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Merritt Gray were
visiting here Monday and reported
that Gene Gray was painfully in
jured when both his legs were
caught in the hay chopper. He is
able to get around on crutches at
the Hermiston home.
Lavonne McMillan returned to
school Tuesday after being absent
several days to undergo an appen
dicitis operation.
Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Amend and
Miss Charlotte Chambers spent the
week end in Portland.
Mr. and Mrs. Ned Gleason spent
the Thanksgiving holidays at Union.
Nick Leathers visited at the C.
C. Carmichael home last week.
Willie Steagall was a dinner guest
at the Carl Whillock home Monday
evening.
Mrs. Cecil Jones took some of her
household goods to Athena this
week where they will make their
home while Mr. Jones drills a well
with the A. A. Durand company.
Mr. and Mrs. Eslie Walker and
family spent Thanksgiving day at
the Art Hunt home.
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Phillips and
family are moving to Arlington this
week where Mr. Phillips has em
ployment. His position at the C. C.
Carmichael store is being filled by
Roy Williams.
Thanksgiving day guests at the
Charles Breshears home were Mr.
and Mrs. William Steagall and fam
ily, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Whillock and
family, and Everett Crump of Hepp
ner. The Study club met at the home
of Jean Williamson Monday eve
ning. Those present were Lorene
Miller, Mary Edwards, Mrs. A.mend,
Mrs. Gleason, Vera Whillock, Char
lotte Chambers, Emma and Helen
Breshears and Mrs. Foos. The next
meeting will be at the Breshears
home on December 9.
Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Bauman and
family spent the Thanksgiving hol
idays visiting relatives in Washing
ton. Mrs. Terrel Benge and children
are spending a few days in Port
land. Elwyn Pack is employed at the
sawmill below Heppner.
Thanksgiving day guests at the
Lonnie Henderson home were Mr.
Henderson's parents and brother
Grant of Stanfield and Mrs. Hender
son's father, Claude White.
Mr. and Mrs. Barton and son of
Eugene, Mr. and Mrs. Loren Mike
sell and family of Toppenish, Mr.
and Mrs. James Pointer, Mr. and
Mrs. Gene Gray and family, Mr. and
Mrs. Merritt Gray of Stanfield, and
Mr. and Mrs. Laurel Ruhl and son
were guests at the Nettie Davis
home Thanksgiving day.
Irvin Rauch spent the week end
at home from his studies at O. S. C.
Mr. and Mrs. Owens Helms spent
Thursday here from their Pendle
ton home.
The grange social was held Sat
urday evening at the hall with a
large crowd attending. An interr
ing program was presented after
which old time dancing was e1 -joyed.

is spending a week with her pare is.

In reporting the Spaldine-Swan-
son wedding in these columns last
week the name of the bridegroom
was inadvertently given as Nelson
Emil. It should have been Norman
Emil.
This section was visited by a sil
ver thaw Sunday morning which
looked like it might become ser
ous. However, it began thawing in
the middle of the morning, but con
sideadble rain fell. Leonard Carlson,
weather observer at Gooseberry, re
ports one-half inch of rain fell there
making a total of 5Yz inches there
since the first of September.
Thanksgiving was the occasion of
many family parties, with students
home from college, and visitors from
outside points.
Mr. and Mrs. Archie Munkers of
Lexington and Mrs. Louis Halvorsen
drove to Salem to celebrate Thanks
giving with Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Crab
tree, parents of the ladies.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Yarnell and
son Alton drove to Newberg to en
joy the week with their son and
daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Clif
ford Yamell.
Miss Charlotte Cannon and Mrs.
Alvin Pettyjohn are hostesses for a
bridal shower at the Congregational
church Friday afternoon, honoring
Mrs. Howard Dunn.
A Thanksgiving program and bas
ket social will we held at the Luth
eran church in Gooseberry at 7:30
p. m., Saturday, November 30. Ev
eryone is invited to come, and ladies
are asked to bring a basket. '
Mrs. Bert Mason and granddaugh
ter, Janet Mason, spent Thanksgiv
ing in Portland with relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. Norman Swanson,
newlyweds from Portland, spent sev
eral days here this week, returning
to Portland on Sunday. They were
entertained Thursday with a family
party at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Oscar Lundell at Cecil, and Friday
evening were honored wifh a re
ception and shower at the home of
Mr. Swanson's parents, Mr. and Mrs.
J. E. Swanson. This was preceded
by a charivari.
Mrs. Clara Kincaid returned home
Friday and is moving into her house
in lone. Mrs. Kincaid has been vis
iting wth her two sisters,, Mrs. Ella
Mason and Mrs. Nettie Lundy in
Portland and with her brother, Joe
Mason and family in Prineville, and
another brother, Jesse Mason at The
Dalles.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Lindstrom of
Morgan visited at the home of Mrs.
Lindstrom's brother, Leon Turner,
at Sparta over the week end.
Marion and Mancel Krebs return
ed to Corvallis Sunday after spend
ing the Thanksgiving vacation with
their parents, Mr. and Mrs. George
C. Krebs at Cecil. Ted Palmateer,
son of Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Palma
teer, returned with them. All are
freshmen at Oregon State.
Mr. and Mrs. Berl Akers and lit
tle son enjoyed the Thanksgiving
feast at the home of Mrs. Akers'
brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and
Mrs. Wallace Matthews near Rose
burg. Mrs. Akers' parents, Mr. and
Mrs. H. O. Ely, have been at the
Matthews home for some time.
Ralph M. Akers is ill in a hos
pital at Eugene.
Mrs. Howard Eubanks is ill at her
home here.
Cora Louise, infant daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Dean Ekleberry of
Morgan, has been quite ill for the
last week. Monday she was taken to
Pendleton to consult a physician.
Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Blake and
Mrs. Delia Corson were dinner
guests at the Kenneth Blake home
in Heppner Thursday.
Mr. and Mrs. Foster. Odom of
Morgan spent the Thanksgiving
week end at Salem with Mr. Odom's
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Odom.
Clifford Carlson drove up from
Eugene to eat turkey and be thank
ful with his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Leonard Carlson. He is a student
at the university.
Helen Lindsay, freshman at E. O.
C. E. at La Grande, spent the holi
day with her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
James Lindsay.
Thanksgiving guests at the Wait
Crawford home were their daugh
ter, Ruth, who is a senior at Maryl-
hurst college and Mr. Crawford's
brother, R. A. Crawford and his
wife and family of Portland.
Katherine Griffith returned to
Monmouth " Sunday after spending
the holiday with her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Elmer Griffith.
Miss Margaret McDevitt, a teach
er in the Pendelton schools, was
here for the week end, visiting her
sister, Miss Cassie McDevitt.
Wallace Lundell, a student at Pa
cific university was at home for the
holidays.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Yarnell and
son Alton sent the week end in
Newberg, where they were guests

Mr. and Mrs. H. V. Smouse and
daughter Shirley ate Thanksgiving
dinner with their son-in-law and
daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Orlo Martin
and family at Moro.
Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Griffith and
family were guests Thursday at the
J. W. Howk home in Condon.
Betty Jean Mankin, a student at
St Paul's school in Walla Walla,
sent the week end at home. Her
mother, Mrs. Fred Mankin, drove
