Gordon Wey Gandt of Portland,
who has had the job of installing
crushed rock on the 12-mile stretch
of private road built by Kinzua Pine
Mills, reports that the work has been
completed and they are now mov
ing the road machinery back to
Portland. This road will be used by
huge logging trucks, necessitating
unusually heavy construction.
Chet Christenson, Chas Hughes,
P. A. Lucas of Pendleton and A. T.
Garrow of Jefferson, Oregon, all of
whom are with the construction and
engineering branch of the state high
way department have been staying
in Heppner inspecting and checking
up on the construction work as it is
being done on the road.
Mr. and Mrs. John Turner of Ba
ker and Mr. and Mrs. Walter La
Dusire of La Grande came to Hepp
ner immediately upon receiving
word of the death of the mother of
Mr. Turner and Mrs. LaDusire, the
late Mrs. R. W. Turner.
A party of five hunters wound up
the deer season by bagging a buck
each the average of which was 200
pounds. Included were Guy Chapin,
R. H. Steers', Carl Leathers and Sa
bin Hastings of Hardman, and Guy
Spacer of Portland.
Robert V. Turner and sister Ana
bel of Portland, and Don Turner of
Eugene, arrived last night to be pre
sent at funeral services today for
their grandmother, the late Mrs. R.
W. Turner.
Mrs. Charles Jones and daughter-in-law,
Mrs. Francis Jones, of Pas
co, Wn., visited Tuesday at the home
of Mrs. Jones' sister, Mrs. Frank S.
Parker.
Sam Sugg of Portland was 'one of
the visiting horde of out-of-county
hunters who made his kill of deer
in the Heppner district. He came
. through Friday with a nice buck.

cialist of Pendleton will be at the

Ladies of the Methodist church
will hold a cooked food sale at the
Furniture store Sat., Nov. 2, begin
ning at 10 a. m.
Stephen Irwin visited friends
in this city Tuesday, coming over
from the Ukiah section where he is
stationed on state highway main
tenance work. .
Leonard Kraft of Bridal Veil and
his father, C. H. Kraft of Chicago,
were business visitors in. Heppner
yesterday.
G. E. Smith and H. L. Franklin
of Portland were hunting in the
Heppner district last week end, be
ing visitors in town Friday evening.
Max Schulz landed a nice four
point buck on Shaw creek last week
end just before the close of the sea
son. Rod C. McCbrnack of the state
department of agriculture was in
Heppner on Monday.
Ben Ell of the Oregon State Game
commission spent the week end in
Heppner and vicinity.
M. M. Saunders, piano tuner, will
be here at Lucas Place again right

in the city the end of the week from
their home at The Dalles, having
been out in the timber for a deer
hunt.
The Conley Construction com
pany expects to finish their work
on the Parker-Eight Mile road next
week, in readiness for oiling to be
done next spring.
Born to Mr. and Mrs. John Hanna,
Jr., at the Aiken maternity home
in this city last Friday, a daughter.

Claude Meyers, who has been em
ployed in the forest near Baker, re
cently received a serious, head in
jury while working. It caused an
abscess over his eyes which has re
sulted in total loss of sight in one
eye ana partial blindness in tne
other one.
G. A. Corwin,
superintendent of
a principal's con
schools, attended
ference in Salem last week. He re
turned home Sunday evening.
Elmer Sullivan, Miss Hazel Sare-
mal, and Mr. and Mrs. Lawton Ham
blin were in Portland over the week
end.
Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Gibbs of
Portland were guests of Mr. and
Mrs. P. Partlow over the week end.
The lone high school girls' league
association invited the Boardman
girls to an inter-school play day on
Friday, October 25. Most of the
girls attended, and they all report
ed a pleasant afternoon.
Mrs. Maude Kobow consulted a
doctor in Hermiston last week about
a badly infected finger. It has been
causing her trouble for several
weeks.

Woolgrowers Change
Meeting Date
The annual convention of the Ore
gon Woolgrowers' association at
Lakeview, previously announced for
December 3 and 4, will begin with
committee meetings on Sunday, De
cember 1, and will continue through
Monday and Tuesday, December 2
and 3.
This will allow time fo memebrs
who wish, to stay through the session
and still get . to Pendleton in time
for the opening of the Eastern Ore
gon Wheat league meeting Decem
ber 5.

Distribution of these bicycles pos
ters is part of the state department's
campaign against bicycle accidents,
it was said. Another hase of the
campaign is the bicycle manual now
under perparation by the safety div
ision.
