Weed Control Steps
Now Are Essential
Steps should be taken by all far
mers at the present time to prevent
any noxious weeds which they may
have from going to seed, according
to C. D. Conrad, county agent.
Conrad says that many patches of
white top and knapweed are show
ing up in the county this month as
the weeds are now blooming and
will soon be seeding.
Unless the clean cultivation me
thod is to be followed in controlling
these weeds, they should be cut and
burned as soon as possible and treat
ed with sodium chlorate or carbon
bisulphide when the fall rains start.
By deep plowing right away and
regular cultivations every two
weeks, the weeds can be controlled
and eradicated in the course of two
or three years. Conrad says this
plan has been followed in Malheur
county and good results have been
obtained on a large scale. Umatilla
county is starting on such a control
program at the present time and
there are many fields of noxious
weeds in Morrow county which can
be eradicated by this method more
cheaply than by the use of chemicals.
Carl F. Bergstrom, "Skeet" Berg
strom and Cleo Drake fished on
Alder and Skookum creeks Sun
day. All made limit catches and
Carl landed a 22-inch red side trout
just to show his prowess as a fisherman.
