Farm Loan Group
Meets in Heppner
Upwards of 100 people were guests
of the Hardman National Farm Loan
association at a dinner given in the
banquet room of the I. O. O. F. hall
in Heppner Friday on the occasion
of the annual meeting of the group.
Vawter Parker, secretary-treasurer
of the HNFLA, was in charge of the
dinner and program arrangements.
Included in the dinner list were
farmer members of Morrow county
and their wives and- officials of the
Federal Land Bank of Spokane.
John Wightman, president of the
HNFLA, presided at the meeting
which was held in the lodge room
following the dinner and presented
O. G. Swenson, director of the Fed
eral Land bank of Spokane. Swen
son spoke briefly on the bank's
work and stated that the FLA is
the largest and richest cooperative
system in the world, its financing
involving as much as $3,000,000,000.
Other speakers included Henry
Baker, director; W. H. Ragsdale,
director of the Federal Land bank
and former eastern Oregon resident;
Dave Grove, district manager of the
FLB, who talked on collections.
Walter Moore, secretary of the PCA
at Pendleton, was introduced, as
were the directors of the HNFLA.
The Hardman National Farm loan
association was first organized in
1917, at which time two other units,
lone and West Extension, were ac
tive. The latter have become de
funct under the group office plan
of the Federal Land bank.
John Wightman is president of
the HNFLA, Chas. B. Cox, vice
president, and Henry Baker, Frank
Wilkinson and Ralph Benge consti
tute the remainder of the board.

weeks' visit with his mother, Mrs.
Nora Wilson.
Mrs. Carl Alqudst from Vale vis
ited her mother, Mrs. Fred Reiks
and other friends from Friday until
Tuesday when she left to visit her
sister, Mrs. Ward, at Umatilla.
Mr. and Mrs. Dock McCoy from
Imbler visited1 the Becker place
west of Irrigon and moved their
belongings down Friday.
Rev. and Mrs. Harness and chil
dren, Mrs. Alquist, Mrs. Messenger
from Boardman and Mrs. Nora Wil
son and son Joe were dinner guests
of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Caldwell Sun
day. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Thorne from
Stanfield and Mrs. James Arnberg
were Sunday dinner guests of Mr.
and Mrs. W. C. Isom.
; L.' N. Smith left for Camas, Wash.,
on a business trip the last of the
week. He will be away some time.
