They visited at the home of Mrs." Beckefs parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Thomson, and with Mr. Becket's mother, Mrs. Daisy Shive ly. Mrs. Becket remained for a week's visit here and Mrs. Shively accompanied her son to Wallowa to spend the week. Relatives of Mrs. Michael Kenny who attended her funeral here Monday include Mr. and Mrs. Har ry Howard of Kent, Wash.; Mrs. Sarah Mooney, Auburn, Wash.; Mrs. Sarah McLaughlin, Tacoma, Wash.; Mrs. John McLaughlin, Pendleton, and Mrs. Mary Gray, Nampa, Idaho. The first four women are her nieces and Mrs. Gray is a cousin. Week end visitors in Heppner were Mr. and Mrs. P. M. Gemmell and children, James and Jean, of Salem. They visited Mr. Gemmell's mother and other relatives while here and greeted many of their friends. They returned to Salem Sunday, taking Mrs. Gemmell with them for an extended visit in the valley. Mrs. Palmer Hoyt and sons Ed and Dick, who spent the week end as guests at the J. G. Barratt home, ' returned Sunday to their home in Portland. They were accompanied by Bill Barratt, freshman at Oregon State college, who was returning to Corvallis to resume his studies. Mr. and Mrs. John Farley and ba by son from John Day and James Farley of Condon arrived the end of the week in response to word of the critical illness of the boys' grandmother, the late Mrs. Mary Kenny, and all remained for the funeral services. Mrs. Jared C. Aiken of Beverley Hills, Cal., and Mrs. Edward Green of Portland., arrived in the city the end of the Veek for a visit with their mother, Mrs. Agnes L. Curran. Mrs. Green expected to remain for a week while Mrs. Aiken plans a fortnight stay. Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Juday of Port land spent Easter at the home of Mrs. Sam Hughes and. daughter, Florence Paul. Returning to Port land Monday they were accompan ied by Mrs. Hughes and Mrs. Paul who will visit in the city. Springlike weather in the moun tains, with most of the snow melted off in their vicinity was the report of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Cason who were transacting business in Hepp ner Saturday. Condon was represented at the funeral of Mrs. Michael Kenny, Monday, by the Monahan, Murphy, Smith, Russell, O'Rourke and Mad dux families. From Pendleton came Walter Moore and John Kilkenny. Plenty wet in his neighborhood is the statement of W. H. French, who was in from the mountain ranch south of Hardman, Wednesday. The wettest season in years and more in sight, French contends. Mr. and Mrs. William Driscoll are enjoying a visit with their daughter, Mrs. Blaine Carney, and grand daughter, Barbara Ann, who arriv ed from Portland last week for a three' weeks stay. Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Benge and Mrs. Terrell Benge and two chil ren left Sunday for Medford to visit Mrs. Hilding Bengston and family. They expect to be gone ten days. Among John Day people here Monday for the funeral of the late Mrs. Mike Kenny were Jim Maples and Guy Boyer who brought Father Murphy of that place with them. Mr. and Mrs. Raleigh Woodfin and son Bill drove to Portland Mon day afternoon on a combined busi ness and pleasure trip. Mrs. Omar Rietmann of lone is a patient at the Heppner hospital. Dr. Wm. C. "The House of Service" The Bookworms met at the home of Miss Leta Humphreys Tuesday evening with Miss Rose Leibbrand as hostess. Mrs. J. O. Turner re viewed Peter Quesnel's "Carolyn of England," a historical novel dealing with life in the Georgian period. There were ten members present including Mrs. C. W. McNamer, Mrs. L. E. Dick, Mrs. Lucy Rodgers, Mrs. J. O. Turner, Mrs. Vawter Parker, Mrs. Floyd Jones, Mrs. Russell Mc Neill, Miss Humphreys and Miss Leibbrand. Tuesday afternoon the American Legion auxiliary held a sewing meeting at the home of Mrs. May Gilliam. Six pillow cases and 12 pitcher covers were made at this time. These will be sent to the vet erans hospital in Portland. Some Easter cards were also sent as re quested. Mrs. J. O. Turner and Miss Jean McElhinny will be hostesses Monday evening to the Music Study club. Italian music will be studied and several songs and piano composi tions will be presented in the course of the evening. The meeting will be held at the home of Miss Leta Humphreys. Coming from Butter creek to at tend funeral services for Mrs. Mi chael Kenny last Monday were Mike Donohay, Dillard French, Sloan Thompson, Hugh Currin. Wally Benjamin of New Ply mouth, Idaho, is assisting Truman Babb with the finishing work on his new building. Miss Anne Carter, field represen tative for the American Red Cross, paid Heppner an official visit Fri day. Felix Johnson of Range was in Heppner Monday to attend the fun eral of the late Mrs. Michael Kenny. Mrs. French Burroughs of lower Rhea creek was a business visitor in Heppner Wednesday.
