Boardman Family
Holds Reunion
By MRS. CLAUD COATS
A family reunion dinner was held
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Nate
Macomber on Sunday. Those pre
sent were Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Ma
comber of Grandview, Wash., par
ents of the host; Mr. and Mrs. Al
Macomber and family of Heppner,
and vMr. and Mrs. Frank Darroh.
Mr. and Mrs. Darroh will sail for
China on March 26, where he is
-working in the navy. Mrs. Darroh
is Nate Macombers sister.
Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Sullivan and
family were in Portland over the
week end. From there Mrs. Sulliv
and and daughters went to Gold Hill
to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Carl Lentz. While there she will
visit her grandmother, Mrs. Mary
Gilbert of Oklahoma whom she
liasn't seen for several years.
Mrs. L. E. Lentz of Filmore, Cal.,
visited at the Sullivan home here
last week. She is Mrs. Sullivan's
sister-in-law. Mrs. Lentz accom
panied Mrs. Sullivan as far south
as Gold Hill.
Mrs. John Yonger, formerly of
Boardman and now residing in Dur
kee, visited friends here for three
days last week. She reported that
Bonnie Yonger has been ill in the
Baker hospital since the first of
December.

included Mr. and Mrs. Faler, Mr.
and Mrs. Ransier, Mr. and Mrs.
Skoubo, Mr. and Mrs. McFarland,
Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Myers, Mr. and

Portland, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Kunze
and Ruth, Ralph Wasmer, Bill Har
rington, Tom Gardner, Mrs. Emma
Hauke and Lyman Randall. .
Mr. and Mrs. Glen Macken of
Hereford visited last week with
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Delano.
Rhea Creek Grange
Slates Birthday Dinner
A pinochle party sponsored by
the Home Economics club was held
at the Tannehill, residence last Wed
nesday. The party was a success
with nine tables filled. High honors
for the evening went to Miss Mc
Grew and Carl Doering, with Mar
garet Thorpe and Chas. Smith re
ceiving the consolation prizes.
At the sub-district B tournament
in Condon last Friday and Saturday
Boardman placed fourth. The local
team won the first game from Fossil
on Friday with a score of 37-34. In
their games with Irrigon and Hepp
ner on Saturday they were not vic
torious, but they played a closer
game with Irrigon than any other
team in the tournament. Irrigon won
, the championship game in the Satur
day night finals. Ralph Skoubo and
Roy Partlow won positions on the
all-stars.
A birthday pinochle party was
held at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Ora Merritt on Friday in honor of
Mrs. Claud Coats. Guests present
were Mrs. Shannon, Mr. and Mrs.
Clyde Tannehill, Mr. and Mrs. Dan
Ransier, Claud Coats, and Carl Do
ering. Mrs. Gladys Fortier spent the
week end in Bend with her daugh
ter, Miss Norma Gibbons who tea
ches in the Bend grade school.
Ernest Turner, formerly of Board-
man, visited friends on the project

A party was held at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Anderegg on
Sunday evening in honor of the

Charley and Lawrence Beckett
went to Portland Tuesday with a
truck load of junk.
Home Economics club of Rhea
Creek eranee met at the hall with
a pot-luck dinner at noon. They
finished quilting the quilt to be sold
in the near future.
, Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Emert, recent
newlyweds, were dinner guests at
the Clive Huston home on Sunday.
Walter Becket, John Bergstrom,
Clive Huston, Anson Rugg and Bar
ton Clark attended the Elks annual
ball in Heppner Saturday1 night.
Mrs. Anson Rugg spent the last
week at the home of her parents in
Wallowa.
Americanism Quiz
Starts at School
Heppner unit of American Legion
auxiliary is again sponsoring an
Americanism contest in the local
school. This consists of an essay
contest for the girls of the eighth
grade and questions on the flag for
the boys of the eighth grade.
The girls this year chose their own
topic, which is "'Democracy vs. Dic
tatorship." Besides the essays and
answers to the flag code questions,
the students will be judged on the
elements of scholarship, honor, ser
vice, courage and leadership, each
counting 16 2-3 points.
Fiftv Questions in all will be sub
mitted, the first 15 of which are
given in the Gazette Times this week
and the others wilt appear in tne
next two issues.

Conference March 28
Oregon' State College Dates for
the third annual air conditioning
conference at O. S. C. have been
set for March 28 to 30. This is
sponsored as a joint project of the
mechanical engineering department
at the college and the Oregon chap
ter of the American Society of
Heating and Ventilating Engineers,
This year's program will be less
technical than those previously held,
and will probably be of more inter
est to men engaged in all branches
of the industry than heretofore, says
Bryant W. Moore, Portland, chair
man of the program committee. One
session, devoted to "What Is Air
Conditioning?" will be open to the
general public.
One session is also devoted to
the economics of industry and an
other to subjects of particular in
terest to architects. The usual large
exhibit of heating and ventilating
equipment will again be held in con
nection with the conference.
Francis Nickerson, son of Mr. and
Mrs. F. B. Nickerson, has been se
lected as a member of Phi Alpha
Delta, national legal fraternity. He
is a law student at the University
of Oregon.
