Thursday, Feb. 1, 1940 HARDMAN NEWS Hardman Goes in for Winter Sports In spite of the fact that much of the snow has gone, a skiing party, which had previously been planned, was enjoyed by an enthusiastic group. The seven car loads who went consisted of Mr. and Mrs. Carey Hastings and daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Max Buschke and Delmer, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Steers and Gus and Bunny, Mr. and Mrs. Eldon McFerrin and children, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Buschke and sons, Mr. and Mrs. Everett Her and children, Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Britt, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Leathers and Miss Jeanne Leathers and Miss Maxine McDan iel. Business visitors and shoppers in Heppner last week were Mr. and Mrs. Dick Steers and Gus and Bun ny, Mr. and Mrs. Al Lovgren, Mr. and Mrs. O. H. Leathers, Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Britt, Mr. and Mrs, Ueal Knighten, Misses Lurline Sparks and Oleta Raimey, and also Vester Hams, Carey Hastings, A. D. Inskeep, Donald and Creston Rob inson, Lewis McDonald, Delvin and Cecil McDaniel and Darrel Farrens. A Sadie Hawkins party was held in the auditorium Saturday eve ning. Supper, consisting of dough nuts, maple bars and coffee was sold. Floor mistresses were Misses Jeanne Leathers and Vern McDan iel. Those furnishing music were Miss Mildred Clary, Harry Owens, Jim Stevens, Donald Robinson and Irl Clary. Everyone had a good time, and there has been several re quests for a similar party. Over $6 was cleared for the 4-H scholar ship fund. Although fogs and snow continu ed most of last week, the tempera ture rose abruptly on Friday, caus ing most of the snow to melt and making the roads very muddy. The weather is still warm at this writing and promises of warm weather are ahead. The Camp Cookery club, at its regular meeting last Friday, chose its name, "The Camp Cookery Cracker jacks." Talks were given by Arlene Inskeep and Irl Clary, All ten members were present as well as the leader, Mrs. Marie Clary. The sewing club under the lead ership of Miss Oleta Raimey met on Thursday evening at the high school. They selected a name "Seven Seamly Stitches," and plan to meet next Thursday evening. Miss Frances Inskeep visited a short time at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Kincaid in lone on Sunday. On Friday, Tyndal Robison came in from their mountain home and attended to business. A meeting of the Clothing I club was held on Friday, January 26. The next meeting will be held on February 9 at the high school. Mr. and Mrs. Vester Hams vis ited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Reed on Wednesday. Those ill during the past week were Miss Oleta Raimey, Carol Buschke, A. D. Inskeep, and Perry and Norvin Adams. Mrs. Fred Gallagher was in town Sunday, and Harley reenrolled in grade school on Monday. O. H. Leathers worked for a few days last week at the Jim Hams ranch. Mr. and Mrs. Eldon McFerrin vis ited at at home of Mr. and Mrs. Sam McDaniel, Jr., on Saturday evening. Roy Robinson was in town Mon day on his way to Heppner to attend to business.
