Hardman Students
Take to Skiing
Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Batty and
Marjorie, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Hast
ings and daughter, Mr. and Mrs.
Stanley Robinson and Doris, Sabin
' Hastings, Claude Hastings, and Miss
es Ollie Hastings, Pat Bleakman
and Frances and Alene Inskeep and
Joe Stephens were business and
pleasure visitors in Heppner on
Saturday.
Kinnard McDaniel with Delvin
and Ramona visited in town a short
time on Sunday.
Mrs. Harry Owen and Patsy
Wright visited a short time in town
on Wednesday.
Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Craber and
Gordon returned home from Ash'
land, where they had been doctor
ing. They are all improved in
health.
The high school students went
skiing last Tuesday. As most had
never been on skis before, some very
complicated and slightly painful
spills were taken. There were many
stiff arms and legs next day. All
-week long and especially over the
week end, skiing was the outstand
ing sport.
Those attending the show in
Heppner Saturday evening were Mr
and Mrs. Stanley Robinson and Dor
is, Misses Frances and Alene In
several inches of light snow fell,
making the total snowfall about 8
inches. The snow is an excellent
background for the beautiful cop
pery sunrises and delicate pastel
tinted sunsets. Fog has been very
frequent over the week end, seldom
leaving and bringing the tempera
ture down to ?ero several times.
SUB-DISTRICT RALLY SET
A sub-district rally of the Ep-
worth league will be held at the
Methodist church in Heppner Sat
urday. Representatives from Ar
lington, Freewater, Hermiston, Mil
ton, Pendleton and Echo will be in
attendance.

Max Buschke, Gus and Bunny
Steers were business visitors in
Pendleton Wednesday.
An impromptu dancing party was
held at the high school on Wednes
day evening of last week in honor
of Miss Vera McDaniel, whose
birthday it was.
Church services were held Sunday
afternoon with Archdeacon Roba-
than of Pendleton in charge. There
was a good attendance. Miss Vera
McDaniel sang a solo, "I Have a
Friend."
Mrs. Charlie McDaniel left for
Arlington on Friday where she will
visit her daughter, Mrs. Bud Fisk,
She went down with Dr. Coleman,
John McDonald, who has been
working at the McNamer ranch near
Heppner, returned on Saturday.
Mrs. McDonald will visit in Hepp
ner a few days before returning
home.

in Heppner last . week were Mrs.
Oren McDaniel, Mrs. Carey riast
ines and Elwood Hastings.
Those on the sick list last week
.were Mrs. Dick Steers, Mrs. Sam
McDaniel, Jr., Miss Frances Inskeep,
John Bellenbrook, and Clarice Has
tings, the small daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Carey Hastings.
Clarence Carmichael of Lexington
and Owen Leathers went to Antone
on Sunday to take Mrs. Nick Lea
thers. She plans to visit there at
the home of her son, Matt Leathers.
She had been visiting here since
New Years at the home of Owen
Leathers.
On Tuesdav of last week the ex
ecutive committee in charge of all
4-H club work in Hardman met at
the high school and made plans for
raising money for scholarships to
the June summer school at Corval
lis. It was decided to give a pro
gram about the middle of March.
Also each of the five clubs will
raise whatever additional sum they
can. Those present at the meeting
were Mrs. G. I. Clary, Clinton Bat
ty and Misses Lurline Sparks and
Vern and Vera McDaniel.
