HARDMAN NEWS
Mercury Reported
Low at Hardman
For the first time all winter,
Hardman has been having real win
try weather. Although the temper
ature has not reached zero, it has
gotten real cold and the snow is
still on, although it has not begun
drifting.
Mrs. Neal Knighten on Friday
went from Alpine to Lexington
where she joined Ralph Scott and
went to The Dalles. Mr. Knighten
met her at Lexington and brought
her home. They returned on Sun
day. John McDonald is working for C.
W. McNamer on the ranch near
Heppner. Mrs. McDonald and Lew
is went with him.
The high school attendance for
the last six weeks has been very
good, as there was only one-half
day's absence in that time.
Carey Hastings and Owen Lea
thers are tagging sheep for Jim
Hams.
Mr. and Mrs. Darrel Hams re
turned from the mountains and are
staying at the Ed Craber ranch. Mr.
and Mrs. Craber and Gordon are
expected home from Ashland in a
iew days if the roads are not blocked
by snow.
Raymond Rejd and Forrest Ad
ams are working at the Hayden mill
where they are taking out logs.
Neal Knighten was a business
visitors in The Dalles on Tuesday.
He went down to bring back Miss
Zelma Way who was there to give
a blood transfusion to Miss Erma
Scott who is suffering from the
after effects of pneumonia.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Stevens and
son Bobby, and Jim Stevens were
business visitors in Heppner on Fri
day. A meeting of the high school 4-H
health club was held on Monday of
last week. "Happy Health" club
was chosen by almost unanimous
vote as the name. Reports were
given by Misses Jeanette Leathers
and Nona Inskeep. Another meeting
was held Monday, Jan. 15, with re
ports by Miss Vern McDaniel and
Irl Clary. Instead of reports at the
next meeting there will be a short
social period with Misses Vern and
Vera McDaniel and Mildred Clary
on the social committee for the
year.
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Leathers, Lew
is Batty, and Les Robinson were
business visitors in Heppner on
Monday.
Earl Redding and Buster Bleak
man returned Friday from Bates
where they have been for the last
few days.
Mr. and Mrs. Vester Hams were
visitors at the Sam McDaniel, Jr.,
home on Thursday.
A Christian Endeavor party was
held at the Clark Stephens home
Saturday evening. Refreshments
consisted of candy. Games and
cards were played during the eve
ning. Elbert Cox, the mail carrier, has
been sick part of the past week
and was not able to take the mail
on his route.
Doctor Coleman made his usual
visit to Hardman on Thursday.
Mrs. C. C. Carmichael was visit
ing in town a short time Saturday
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Owen
Leathers. Mrs. Nick Leathers of
Portland has been visiting at the
Leathers home for the past two
weeks.
A meeting of the 4-H clothing
club, under the leadership of Mil
dred Clary was held on Jan. 12.
Social and program committees
were appointed. Those on the social
committee are Doris Robinson and
Evelyn McFerrin, on the program
committee, Yvonne Hastings and

A meeting of the camp cookery
club was held on Dec. 12, under
the leadership of Mrs. Marie Clary

meeting will be held on Jan. 26
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Huddleston and
son Tommy of Lone Rock with Mr,
and Mrs. Carl McDaniel, spent a
short time on Sunday in Hardman,
visiting at the Owen Leathers home
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Owen, Mr.
and Mrs. Sam McDaniel, Jr., and
daughter Maxine, and Mrs. Clatha
Ramesy were business visitors in
Pendleton Monday.
Degree of Honor
Holds Installation
The Degree of Honor held instal
lation ceremonies last Friday eve
ning at which time the following
officers were installed: Past presi

Julia Hill; vice president, Faye
Munkers; second vice president, Ida
Macomber; secretary, Clara Beam-

Following the installation the
lodge enjoyed a social hour. Re
