McCarty, Mr. and Mrs. Sloan Thomson, Allan Thom son, Echo; Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Ha gen, Helix; John Farley, Guy Boyer, John Day; Pat Mclntyre, Condon. Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Bucknum and Mr. and Mrs. Dick Sperry drove up from Salem to be present at fu neral services for Mrs. Bucknum's father, the late Charles Ritchie, at lone Saturday. Mr. Sperry has held the position of guard at the state penitentiary since last July, while Mr. and Mrs. Bucknum have both been working in the capital city for some time. Zan Sims has been staying at the home of Dr. A. D. McMurdo for several days, recuperating from a breakdown in health in his work at Oregon State college. Rapid im provement is reported. His father, Clifford Sims, visited at the McMur do home Saturday, from Milton. Rhea Luper visited relatives in the citv a short time Saturday on Hs way from Jordan Valley to his home in Portland. Mr. Luper has been located for some time as en gineer on an irrigation dam at Juan Jaca in the Jordan Valley. Sheriff C. J. D. Bauman and Dis trict Attorney Frank Alfred left yesterday for Portland where they are attending sessions of the annual state sheriffs' and district attorneys' conventions, today, tomorrow and Saturday. M. C. Pearson, commercial driver f Milton -Freewater, has received an award from the National Safety Council for driving one year with out an accident, it was announced today by the state traffic safety di vision. J. A. Troedson was able to be up town and greeting friends as usual after receiving treatment for the in jured wrist which he cut with an axe at the Morgan farm last Thursday.
