Oil Co-Op Success
Cited at Pomona
Making report of successful op
eration of Lexington Oil Co-operative
before Pomono grange at Lex
ington Saturday evening, Mrs. Grace
M. Turner, manager, made a stirring
plea to farmers to stick by their co
operative guns.
"A cooperative is formed in al
most every instance when the farm
ers of a community at last rebel at
high prices they are made to pay
with the knowledge that all of the
profits made on the necessities they
must purchase are lost to them,"
said Mrs. Turner before outlining
theTOethod of organizing and oper
ating a cooperative. To keep a co
operative in shape to attain its ob
jectives, members must support it
and not fall for lower prices that
may at times be offered elsewhere,
she said in effect.
Citing growth of the Lexington
Oil Co-op, she said that from a small
beginning when money was bor
rowed to purchase the first load of
gasoline, the company showed a net
worth of $5000 last year, paid mem
bers about $800 in cash dividends
plus $1000 which was returned to
the company for added stock to per
mit expansion.
"Who else would have returned
you $1800 for. such purchases as
were made from the company?"
Mrs. Turner asked. She concluded
with, "I would like to remind you
to keep before you the example of
the banana every time it leaves
the bunch it gets skinned."
SCOUT INSTITUTE SET
A camp leaders training institute
will be held in Camp Rotary over
the week-end of November 4 and
5 with eputy Regional Executive
Robert H. Hayes in charge. The
purpose of this institute is to train
a few selective men from each dis

The bronze plaque of ex-Governor
Charles H. Martin, donated to
the state by admirers of the former
governor, arrived at the capitol this
week and will be placed in the me
morial corridor on the lower floor
of the building. Placing of the
plaque was delayed when donors
insisted that it be placed in the ex
ecutive suite, an ar-rangement to
which Secretary of State Snell ob
jected as setting a precedent that
might lead to embarrassing compl
cations in the future.
