He will reside havinf en in attendance to her there with his sister, Miss Myra Wells, nurse in a large Oakland hos pital. Harry has been assisting at the county engineer's office for sev eral months, and in taking the Oak land position he rejected the offer of a Bureau of Public Roads position, notice of appointment to which was received just previous to the Oak land offer. Mr. and Mrs. George McDuffee announce that they . have moved their home back to Heppner, hav ing arrived recently from Portland where they have been living for sev eral years. Morrow county's former sheriff is enjoying quite good health again after battling a severe illness the last several years, in the course of which he underwent a major op eration. Among recent fortunate hunters -was Francis Nickerson, who landed a 150-pound buck on a hunt in the Taylor creek district in Grant coun ty just before leaving to resume his studies at University of Oregon where he is majoring in law. He liunted in company with his father, T. B. Nickerson, who was not so fortunate. Vernor Sackett and Frank Alley of Salem passed through town Mon day on their way to Morrow coun ty's timber hinterland in quest of the mule tail buck. Mr. Sackett, son-in-law of the late S. E. Notson, en joyed greeting old-time friends while here. Mr. Alley is a gunsmith in the capital city. W. H. French, in town Tuesday morning from Blue Mountain farm south of Hardman, reported crop prospects the best at his place he has experienced in his many years of residence there. Late moisture has helped both ; crops and range materially, grass being three inches high, he said. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Scrivner and nrice T?ntVi nrpen motored to La Grande last Sunday, Mr. and Mrs, Scrivner visiting their son Bob. and Miss Green visiting Kathryn Parker. It weighed exactly 200 pounds hog dressed, he said. Mrs. Pauline Lorung of Battle Ground, Wash., is visiting at the home of her daughter, Mrs. E. E. Edwards, at the Sand Hollow farm, Mrs. Edwards meeting her in Ar lington Monday. Allgott Lundell was transacting business in the city for a few hours yesterday from the Gooseberry farm. He reported having his new crop in the ground and desirous of moisture. Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Barratt mo tored to Portland yesterday to be gone for several days while Mr. Bar ratt attends a directors' meeting of Northwest Production Credit asso ciation. Leo. Joe and Alex Gray of Port land, brothers of Mrs. R. C. Young, were guests at the Young home loct wooW while enioving a bird hunt. Dr. J. P. Miss Ilene Kenny, who has been . nursing in Seattle, is visiting at the farm home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Kenny. L. L. La Verne is confined at Emanuel hospital, and favorable progress was reported. Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Thomson, Jr., have announced the arrival of Mer edith Jean, born in Portland Fri day. After answering the stork's call to the city, Mr. Thomson re turned home Monday, reporting mother and babe doing nicely. Morrow county. He was long a member of the Methodist church, acting on the official board. Funeral services were held from the W. T. Rigdon company chapel in Salem at 2 p. m., on Wednesday last week. Rev. J. C. Harrison officiated. Mr. Miller came to Morrow coun- to reside in 1912, and farmed north of Lexington for two years. After that time he was a frequent visitor at the homes of his sons in this county. Jason Biddle of Rhea creek was transacting business here yesterday in connection with winding up the estate of the late William Windsor of which he is administrator. Earl W. Gordon returned today from Portland where he transacted business and attended the Pacific International Livestock exposition for several days. Miss Marie Healy of Portland visited over the week end with rela tives and friends here. Morrow Boys Place High in Wool Show Tad Miller and Donald Peck of Lexington took high honors in the 4-H wool show sponsored by Pa cific Wool Growers at Pacific In ternational Livestock exposition in Portland this week. Young Miller took first and sec ond places in the grade show of fine staples division, while Peck placed third in the same class. EDWARD C. MILLER Edward C. Miller, 76, died at the home, 155 South 19th street, Salem, Monday, Oct. 2, at 4 p. m. Mr. Miller was born near Sandwich, 111., Sept, 11, 1863, the youngest of six chil dren, all of whom preceded him in death. On November 21, 1886, he married Anna Lizzie Shulz, who passed away May 17, 1908. The ten children all survive, as well as 20 grandchildren. Children are El Harvey, John and Merle of Hepp ner and Lexington Mrs. E. R. Wag ner, Los Angeles; Mrs. F. E. Haines, and Edward, Portland; Mrs. J. E. Clark and Karl G. Miller, Salem. On April 30, 1917, Mr. Miller mar ried Ada Flewelling, who survives.
