Mustangs Edge Out
Fossil in Hard Game
Hetmner's Mustangs pulled what
looked to be a hopeless same out of
the fire in the last few seconds, of
play at Rodeo field, Friday after
noon, and defeated the more ex
perienced lads from Fossil, 13-12.
Richard Hayes, fullback, crashed
over for the winning touchdown
iust 35 seconds before the final gun.
Fossil made her two touchdowns
in the first eight minutes of play,
via a series of spectacular running
and nass nlavs. It took that long for
the greener Mustangs to get their
cleats set for the determined de
fensive that kept the visitors away
from pay dirt the remainder of the
same. It was not until the final quar
ter, however, that the Mustangs
found their own offensive powers,
and repeatedly worked a pass play
in which Douglas Drake was on the
receiving end. to get into scoring
territory. Jack Merril, right half,
packed the pigskin across the line
for the first touchdown and Hayes
bucked across for the additional
point. Try after the second touch
down was forfeited by too much
time out. Most of Hepner's reserves
saw action.
Next Saturday the Mustangs jour
ney to Pendleton to play the Bucks'
second team.
