Stephens Student Body Tax At the beginning of this year it was found that the high school student body was in debt for sports goods purchased last year. In order to pay these bills it will be necessary for everyone to pay their student body tax. The student body tax is only 75c a semester, much lower than most schools. On your ticket you can at tend all home games, with the ex ception of the tournament, all stu dent body meetings and programs and all social hours. So far, seventy tickets have been sold but the rest of you hurry and pay your tax so you can attend the first home game this Friday with Fossil. Again the students of the high school have decided to put out a school paper. Last year the students thought it was a good idea and prom ised to help contribute articles, but after a few publications their in terest ceased. If the -students really want a paper it wil be up to them to help. You can do this by handing in jokes, gossip, and other news. Sports With seven returning lettermen and a large group of game players, some of them inexperienced, the Heppner Mustangs open the season by playing Fossil. The game is sched uled for Friday and should prove very interesting, especially to the backers of HHS. The of ficers also held a meeting to make plans for future meetings. H-Club Meeting An H-Club meeting was held on September 14 to elect an initiation committee. Social Hour The first social hour of the school year was given last Friday evening by the junior class. The dancing started about 7:30 and lasted until about 9 o'clock. After the last dance refreshments of cake and punch were served. About seventy people attended, making one of the largest crowds that has ever been present at a social hour. The entire high school hopes there will be many more just as successful. ' Fire Patrol Formed This year a fire patrol was formed with Harold Armstrong at the head He appointed the other members who are Norval Osborn, Don Fred erickson, Douglas Drake, Kemp Dick, Hugh Crawford and Arthur Vance. It is arranged so that at least one of these boys will be in study hall to open the fire escape when the signal sounds. The boys have cleaned the escape out and it is now fairly safe to go down without spoiling one's clothes. Senior Play The senior class is in debt so it has decided that they should put on a play and Mr. Peavy was asked to help. Plays have been sent for but no definite decision has been made as some seem to have lost their en- thusiam. A senior play is a part of the program in many schools and it would give the students a chance to demonstrate their talent. Text Books This year as a special favor to the students, the school district is offer ing the students all their textbooks and work books for four dollars. In former years the books have cost from six to nine dollars, so it will be a big saving to the students. Of course, no part of this money will be refunded at the end of the year, as in the other system, but it is be lieved by most students to be cheap er. If these books are destroyed or damaged very seriously the student will have to pay for them, but sure ly high school students have by this time learned to take care of their books. Guess Who!!! It's a girl; she's a senior; she high steps for the band; she is noted for her hair; at present she is interested in the milling business. Margaret: I hear Hitler's gone in for athletics.
