HARDMAN NEWS
Reed Mill Starts
Season's Operations
By HARDMAN HIGH SCHOOL
The Reed mill started to work
Monday with Mr. and Mrs. Sam
McDaniel in charge of the cook
house.
Since there were many other at
tractions on Saturday night and
many of the farmers were busy at
spring work, the four one-act plays
did not attract the usual crowd. The
plays, however, went off well, the
audience showing much appreciation
of various clever parts, as when
Creth Craber and Marvin Saddler
indulged in a most uncongenial do
mestic scene. Other well-acted parts
were Varn McDaniel's encounter
with the bat; Frances Inskeep's in
creasing exasperation over the blue
gown; Mildred Clary's portrayal of
a pestiferous kid, and Irl Clary's
convincing Vera McDaniel and Grace
Buschke that he was a good book
agent Startling occurrences were
when Rita Robinson opened pack
age, Jean Leathers' flow of baby
talk, and Nona Inskeep s high falut
ing language. Elsa Leathers' part
as the cross teacher was well acted.
Between plays Junior Leathers and
Cecil , McDaniel sang "Twilight on
the Trail." Vera McDaniel played
a piano solo and Vera and Maxine
McDaniel sang "Say You'll Be
Mine."
Miss Pat Bleakman is cooking at
the home of Mrs. Ada Cannon dur
ing lambing.
J. E. Craber and R. H- French went
to Monument for a mule and a horse.
While returning the back of the
truck caught on fire but there was
no damage done.

Raymond McDonald and children
were dinner guests at the home of
Mrs. Roy Robinson.
Henry Graham, Creston Robin
son and Marvin Saddler attended
the show in Heppner Sunday.
Charlie Johnson went to work for
Neal Kniehten Monday.
Although there were many delays
in eettins? started, and there were
not as many as usual, everybody
had a good time at the dance Satur
day night.
Mrs. Brannon's room raffled off a
bed spread Saturday night. The
drawing took place at the dance and
Junior Leathers was the winner.
Kim Craber is back at the home
of E. J. Craber after several weeks'
stay in the veterans' hospital in
Walla Walla. He is much improved.
Richard Robison, who is in the
St. Vincent's hospital in Portland
suffering from pneumonia, is much
improved.
Carey Hastings and Yvonne and
Vera McDaniel were business vis
itors in Heppner Saturday.
Mrs. J. H. Allen, who has been
visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Kinnard McDaniel, returned to
Hardman Friday. She is at the home
of Mrs. Ethel McDaniel.
The Birthday club met at the
grade school Friday, where Mrs.
McCutcheon entertained them. The
pupils put on a program for the
members of the club. Refreshments
consisted of iello. cake and punch.
Mr. and Mrs. Carey Hastings and
Yvonne were business visitors in
Mitchell Sunday.
Neal Knighten went on a business
trio to Salem Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Brannon
soent the week end in Portland.
The upper grade room received
an album made by the Junior Red
Cross in Nieswiez. Poland.
Mr. and Mrs. Charlie McDaniel
and Miss Pat Bleakman were vis
itors in Heppner Saturday.
The weather this week was ex
cellent, rather warm days and
slightly cool nights.
