Elmer Hamrick visited his family
here Sunday from The Dalles where
he has undergone, treatment for two
months following burns received
when he came into accidental con
tact with the high power line at
lone as P. P. & L. lineman. His
progress toward recovery has been
good and he expected to be dis
missed from the hospital in two
weeks. In spite of amputation of
one hand, he has been in good spir
its and has taken advantage of op
portunities for recreation as short
respites , from hospital life have af
forded. Norton King, home on vacation
from his studies at Oregon State
college, underwent an emergency
operation or appendicitis at Hepp
ner hospital Tuesday evening. No
complications were reported and he
came through the ordeal in good
shape. His father, A. T. King, came
from Kinzua in response to word of
the emergency, returning home yes
terday. La Verne Van Marter arrived yes
terday to spend part of spring vaca
tion from studies at U of O. with his
mother, Mrs. Muriel Van Marter,
having stopped over in Portland a
couple of days on he way. He has
held a regular berth with the frosh
basketball team the past season,
turning in a good record.
Mr. and Mrs. E. Jay Merrill were
in town Monday from the farm home
in the mountains south, of Hardman.
Mr. Merrill had just had a bandage
removed from an eye that he had
had treated for more than a year,
and looked forward to its being well
recovered. Much snow in the timber
was reported.
O. M. Scott and Norman Nelson
were transacting business in the
city Saturday in connection with the
benefit dance for Lexington Boy
Scouts to be held at the Lexington
grange hall next Saturday evening.
They extended an invitation for
everyone to join in having a good
time.
Among Oregon State college stu
dents home for spring vacation are
Nancy and Charles Cox, Norton
King, Louise Anderson, Bernard
McMurdo and Howard Cleveland.
Clair Cox, who has a position in
Corvallis, drove up with his sister
and brother.
Mr. and Mrs. Leo Gorger and chil
dren were in the city Tuesday from
the farm north of lone. Mr. Gorger
reported his health well on return
to normal following recent illness
from a serious infection.
Egbert L. Young was transacting
business in the city Tuesday from
Rhea creek where he has been for
the last four weeks at the Earl Mc
Kinney farm.
Joe Green arrived home the end
of the week to spend spring vaca
tion from studies at U. of 0. with
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alex
Green.
Dr. J. P. Stewart, Eye-Sight Spec
ialist of Pendleton, will be at the
HEPPNER HOTEL on WEDNES
DAY, MARCH 22nd.
Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Ferguson and
Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Barratt motored
to Portland Sunday, returning Mon
day evening.
Harold Anderson of Gooseberry
was a business visitor in the city

Former Hardmanite
Dies in Australia
By HARDMAN HIGH SCHOOL
Word was received this week of
the death of George Robinson of
Cranbrook, in western Australia,
who died January 17. Mr. Robinson
was the father of Roy Robinson and
for years was a resident of Morrow
county. In 1909 he left here for Ar
gentina and later went to Australia.
One son is married and is living in
Australia and a daughter died there,
leaving a family. Another son, Hen
ry, resides at John Day and a daugh
ter, Mrs. Basil Harrison, lives at
Redmond. Mr. Robinson would have
been 88 years old in May.
Those from here attending the
dance at Rhea creek Saturday night
were the Misses Vern and Vera Mc
daniel, Pat Bleakman, Betty Gaither,
Grace and Jean Leathers, Mr. and
Mrs. Earl Redding, Gus and Bunny
Steers, Donald and Creston Robin
son, Burt Burnside, Irvin Greener,
Marvin Saddler, Tommy Graham
and Leon Chapin.
Mr. and Mrs. Charlie McDaniel
went to Arlington for a trappers'
meeting. Mr. McDaniel returned on
Tuesday without his wife, who be
cause of illness' remained until Sun
day. She stayed at the home of her
daughter, Mrs. Bud Fisk.
Glen McCutcheon withdrew from
our high school and is now enrolled
in Heppner high school.
Mr. and Mrs. Kinnard McDaniel
were visiting in Hardman Monday
morning.

Mrs. Marvin Brannon and Mrs.
Muriel McCutcheon attended the
grade school teachers luncheon in
Heppner Saturday.
The prayer meeting group has or
ganized a recreation club which will
meet on Friday evenings at the hall
in the Miller building. Everybody
is welcome.
Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Reid moved
to the mill on Rock creek. They are
living in the Lovgren house.
Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Smith and
children, Mrs. Bessie Craber and
daughter of Walla Walla visited Mrs.
Ethel McDaniel Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Peterson and
children and Mrs. Fred Bartmess of
Gridley, Calif., visited friends and
relatives here from Tuesday till Fri
day and then went to Walla Walla
to visit relatives there.
Mrs. Maud Robisan and son Rich
ard arrived in Hardman Wednesday
and visited for several days.
Gus Steers has gone to work for
Mr. Buschke above Heppner.
A well attended and very enjoy
able birthday party was held at the
home of Mrs. Lewis Knighten Fri
day afternoon. It was a regular
meeting of the Birthday club in hon
or of Mrs. Carey Hastings and Mrs.
Knighten. Since the club is raising
money for church repairs, they se
lected a committee who shall have
charge of all things relative to the
church. The following were elected:
George Hayden, chairman; J. B. Ad
ams, Mrs. Charlie McDaniel, A. D.
Inskeep, and Neal Knighten.
Bill Mahrt was in town last week
installing a Delco light plant at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Leathers.
