Fred, a member of the college freshman basketball team, assisted lone in the game against Domestic Laundry of Pendleton at lone Saturday night. Cornett Green, Ralph Beamer and Dick Sperry were among Heppner people who attended the fight card at Boardman Friday evening. Fred Hoskins was referee. Sperry, pro moter for local firemen's smokers, signed up some of the talent for presentation on the card here next Thursday evening. The American Legion Auxiliary is holding a Food Sale at the Dix gro cery on Saturday, , Feb. 25th; sale starts at 11:30 a. m. The Auxiliary is also having a sewing meeting at the home of Mrs. C. B. Cox in the afternoon of February 25th. Horace Yoakum returned to the county this week after spending considerable time at Hillsboro and is back at the old farm in the moun tains on Willow creek. He was trans acting business in town Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Felker have announced the birth of a girl, weighing 7 pounds 6 ounces, at Portland on Monday. Mr. Felker went to the city Saturday to be with Mrs. Felker. Dutch Steward of Wolf Creek, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Steward, early day residents of the county, was calling in Heppner yesterday on his way to Prineville. Mrs. Henry Aiken was able to be up town the end of the week, being well on the road to recovery from the recent major operation she un derwent in Portland. Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Bisbee were in Portland over the week end, visit ing their daughter, Miss Katherine Bisbee, county health nurse at Ore gon City. Fred Hoskins, in town yesterday from Rhea creek, reported that he would start lambing operations about March 5. J. W. Maidment and son John, Jr., were business visitors here Monday from Lone Rock. Mrs. C. H. McDaniel of Hardman was a business visitor in the city Saturday. The position of honorary guard at the San Francisco world's fair has been granted Stephen Wehmey er, son of Mr. and Mrs. F. F. Weh meyer, in Uncle Sam's navy, ac cording to word received by the parents. He will hold the position for duration of the fair. Weed Control Work Pushed in County Eight illustrated leaflets, first in a series dealing with perennial weeds found in Oregon, have just been issued as extension bulletins at Oregon State college, and are now ready for free distribution. Each leaflet carries an accurate reproduction of one weed in various stages, such as the mature plant, the root system, leaves, blossom, and seeds. A description of each weed and its distribution in the state is discussed, as well as the latest rec ommendations on control methods.
