Ernie Johnson, veteran employee at the R. A. Thompson ranch, was a visitor in the city Tuesday morn ing. Mr. Johnson was employed by Mr. Thompson when he went into his country's service at war time and following the war returned to continue service on the ranch. Mr. and Mrs. T. Babb returned home Sunday evening from a sev eral days' business trip to Portland. They were accompanied on the trip by Mrs. Lillian Cochran who un derwent clinical examination for her health while in the city. .Mr. and Mrs. Rupert Stout have returned to Heppner after a short visit in California and will make their home in the house on Gil more street formerly occupied by Mr. and Mrs. G. HABDMAN NEWS ' Church Benefit Dated at Hardman By Hardman High School Keep in mind the 4th of March because the girls and ladies of the community are giving three one-act plays then to raise money to fix up the church. The Birthday club is in charge and there will be a dance at the I. O. O. F. hall as well ! as the program at the high school. Mrs. Neal Knighten, Mrs. Muriel McCutcheon and Mrs. Irl Clary are each directing one play. One of the plays, "Don't Tell a Soul," includes the following cast: Mrs. Roy Robin son, Mrs. George Hayden, Mrs. Carey Hastings, Mrs. Max Buschke, Mrs. Charlie McDaniel, Mrs. Carl Leathers, Mrs. Earle Redding, Mrs. Sam McDaniel and Miss Murl Far rens. The other casts will be an nounced next week. But keep in mind , the date Saturday, March 4. Buddy Batty was in Hardman last Tuesday to get Louis Batty's truck. Patsy Ann Wright, small daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wright, who has been in the hospital with pneumonia, is improving. John Monahan and his son of Condon were visitors for a short time in Hardman while en route to the Roy Robinson ranch last week. A number of Hardman Odd Fel lows met with the lodge in Hepp ner Tuesday. Those who went were Francis Craber, Bunny and Gus Steers, Louis Batty and Leon Cha pin. Creston Robinson and Marvin Saddler walked to the Roy Robin son ranch in the mountains Satur day and returned Sunday. The Odd Fellows opened the hall after lodge so that the home people could have a little dance. In spite of the many other attractions there were enough for a good time. The Birthday club met at the home of Mrs. L. C. Batty last Thurs day, the occasion being her birth day. Refreshments consisted of chicken sandwiches, pickles, assort ed home made cookies, and coffee. Everyone had a good time, and fur ther plans were made for the eve ning of one-act plays, the time be ing March 4. The weather the past week was much colder, reports as low as 20 below zero being heard. At least it was very cold, with new additions of snow each day and strong winds which carried off much of the snow.
