Heppner 60 per cent of these birds destined to form the piece de resistance of Thanksgiving dinners the country over, will be western turkeys pro duced in the three Pacific coast states and in Utah and Colorado. Annually, turkeys worth more than $6,000,000 are placed on the holiday market by farmers' cooper atives in 21 states, according to fig ures derived from ' the commodity study made as a part of the Farm Credit administration's nation-wide survey of farm cooperation. The tur keys are handled by 94 associations, some of which are federations of smaller co-ops, or cooperative sales agencies. Utah farmers lead the nation in dollar volume of turkeys marketed cooperatively, with an output of close to $1,000,000. Colorado, with $789,000, is second; California routes birds worth $774,000 through coop eratives, and Oregon's volume is close behind at $734,000. Marketed in more or less unor ganized fashion in the past because of the brief, seasonal demand, tur keys have attained a new import ance in the food marts of the coun try through cooperative effort. Co operating farmers are making out standing efforts to develop new "streamlined" birds bearing a max imum of meat with a minimum of waste. The co-ops have pioneered in advertising, standardization of their product, and attractive, packaging. Also, they have led the industry in endeavors to popularize the "gob bler" as a year-round dish, meeting with considerable success in the ho tel and restaurant trades. Public ownership advocates broke even in their attempts to organize peoples utility districts in Oregon last week. Voters of Wasco county rejected the proposal while those on the upper McKenzie river approved the plan by a large margin. In Was co county it was the city dwellers who defeated the utility district plan, their adverse majority more than offsetting the favorable ma jority returned by the rural districts, Court Proceedings For October Term BE IT REMEMBERED, That the County Court met in regular ses sion at the Courthouse in Heppner, Oregon, on Wednesday, the 5th day of October, 1938, this being the reg ular time for holding a term of .said Court, when were present: Bert Johnson, Judge; George N.
