Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Dixon visited
Heppner friends the first of the
week, being on their way from the
Willamette valley to their home at
Lola, Mont., where Mr. Dixon is
educational supervisor with a CCC
camp. He held a like position here
before going to Montana some six
months ago.
' Heppner relatives have received
word from Mr. and Mrs. Gerald
Booher that they will move from
Twin Falls, Idaho, to Boulder City,
Nevada, in the near future, Mr. Boo
her having been transferred in his
work with Standard Service stations.
Mr. and Mrs. Booher visited here
recently.
The American Legion Auxiliary
will meet Monday evening, Nov. 14,
at the home of Mrs. Floyd Adams.
Mrs. Lucy Rodgers, Americanism
chairman, has prepared a program
pertaining to Armistice Day for the
meeting.
Born, to Mr. and Mrs. George
Howard at Heppner hospital, Friday,
a 10y2-pound son. Mr. Howard is
manager of J. C. Penney Co. store.
Both mother and baby are reported
to be doing nicely.
Phyllis Mae was born to Mr. and
Mrs. Wilbur Nichols at Enumclaw,
Wash., November 5. Mrs. Nichols
will be remembered as Mae Ed
mondson, 1937 graduate of Heppner
high school.
L. E. Bisbee, L L. Gilliam and
Gene Ferguson were among local
sportsmen absent from, their re
spective places of business the first
of the week as they had left for an
elk hunt
Harold Mason arrived in the city
Monday with a party of elk hunters
from Portland that he was guiding
into the woods.
John Odell, district manager for
Tum-A-Lum Lumber company, was
in the city yesterday from the Walla
Walla office.
Dr. .A D. McMurdo and F. B.
Nickerson were two Heppner men
leaving for the elk hunting grounds
Monday.
. A tea and bazaar will be held at
I. O. O. F. hall, Nov. 19, sponsored
by Past Noble Grand club. Hours,

High School Operetta
Set for December 16
December 16 is the date of Hepp
ner high school's annual operetta.
The name of the operetta this year
is "Ask the Professor." The cast is
as follows:

Maryida O'Neal, Helen Lundell; Pro
fessor Breakeasy, Omer McCaleb;
John Ainsworthy, Jack' Merrill; June
Ainsworthy, Pat Dooley; Polly, Ju

goger; Tommy Freshman, Donald
Bennett; Mrs. O'Neil, Bethal Blake.
Besides the main cast there are
"several dancing ensembles. The cast
members are working very hard on
the operetta, and it should prove to

FIRE AT BECKET"S
Fire which started about the chim
ney in the living room at the Harold
Becket home abot 10 o'clock Sunday
morning resulted in an alarm being
turned in and quick response by the
fire department. The flames were
subdued without much damage resulting.
Mrs. Pinckney Heads
Annual Roll Call
Mrs. B. C. Pinckney was named
chairman of the annual Red Cross
roll call for Morrow county at a
meeting of the county chapter Mon
day, attended by Miss Alice V.
Maxwell, special field representative
from San Francisco.
Miss Maxwell lauded Morrow
county's excellent reputation for re
sponse in past roll calls, and em
phasized the recent flood and tor
nado disasters in the south and east
as need for continuing the great hu

Miss Florence Becket is confined
at Emanuel hosital in Portland for
an illness following an operation she
underwent at Corvallis last week for
appendicitis. Miss Becket, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Becket and
queen's attendant at the recent Ro
deo, is a student at O. S. C.
