Lexington Invites
All to Reunion
By MARGARET SCOTT
Come to the Pioneers' Reunion
Saturday, Oct. 22, prepared to enjoy
the pot-luck dinner at noon, the af
ternoon program, the lunch in the
evening, and the dance at night. In
stead of the usual pot-luck supper
in the evening the Oddfellows will
sell lunches of hot dogs, doughnuts
and coffee. Also there will be a ba
zaar instead of raffling off of a filled
cedar chest.
Charlie Cummings, Arlie Padberg,
Dale Lane, Hap Hayes and Edward
Rice spent past of last week in Pen
ticton, B. C, Canada, visiting at
the home of Mr. Cummings' parents.
Ellwynne Peck visited over the
week end with his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. George, Peck, from Pacific uni
versity in Forest Grove where he
is attending' college.
Archie Padberg, Jr., son of Mr. and
Mrs. Archie Padberg, was painfully
injured Sunday when he received a
cut on his forehead .from a rock
thrown by a playmate. Archie was
taken to a physician in Heppner and
two stitches were required to close
the wound.
Ruth Cowins who has been attend
ing business college in La Grande,
was visiting at the home of her
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George
Allyn, this week.
Mr. and Mrs. Terrel Benge are the
parents of a daughter, born in Port
land last Tuesday night.
Orville Haigh who has been em
ployed by Lon Edwards for the past
several months, is taking a vacation
in Colorado to visit with his mother
and two daughters.
Ernest Ruhl and Ray Hale of Es
tacada were visiting at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Otto Ruhl and with
Esther Ruhl, who is employed at
Cutsforth Corners.
It is reported that the dance at
Lexington grange hall last Saturday
was well attended.
Those who are required to take
the advanced tests for tuberculosis
are to be in The Dalles Saturday,
October 29.
Sunday school will be held Sun
day at 10 a. m. and church at 11 a.
m. in the Christian church. Evening
services will be held at lone.
Mr. and Mrs. Gene Gentry, who
formerly made their home here,
were visiting with local friends last
week from their- present home at
Halfway.
School News
Jerrine Edwards
The local football team defeated
the Stanfield team at Stanfield last
Friday by a score of 12 to 8. The
Stanfield team will play a return
game here next Saturday morning.
School will be dismissed Thurs
day and Friday, when the teachers
will go to Pendleton for institute.
William D. Campbell left Thurs
day afternoon to attend a principal's
conference at Salem. He returned
home Sunday evening.
Miss Patricia Jewell, teacher in
the local high school, spent the
week end at her home in Oregon
City.

Irrigon Men Build
Portland House

Clair Caldwell and Bob Smith left
for Portland last week where they
will construct a house for Vern
Caldwell.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Browning, Mrs.
Nellie Knighten and Mrs. Ed Ad
ams motored to Baker Saturday and
returned Sunday.
Teachers' Institute will be held on
Thursday, Friday and Saturday of
this week.
Ralph Jones, principal, attended
a school masters' meeting at Salem
last week.
Rev. Weibel of Pendleton visited
here Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Kendler, Sr.,
visited W. C. Isom Sunday evening.
Vernon Jones and daughter Von
na and son Willard left Saturday on
a 10-day hunting trip.
Thomas Wells, county assessor,
was in Irrigon over the week end,
duck hunting.
Mrs. Ford of Gaston and Mrs.
Boulaware of Hermiston visited over
night at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Harvey Warner last week. Mrs.
Boulaware is the mother of Mrs.
Warner and Mrs. Ford is an aunt.
Ray Sparks joined the CCC camn
at Heppner last week.
Mr. and Mrs. Harness, brother and
sister-in-law of Rev. Harness, and
Miss Harness, a sister, are visiting
at the parsonage this week from
Washington. Miss Harness will make
an indefinite visit here.
Mrs. Glen Snoderelv and children
of Idaho are visiting at the home of
her sister, Mrs. Frank Dall.
Arlene Dexter, infant daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Bert Dexter. Jr..
sprained her wrist badly Saturday.

tored to Imbler for the week end.
Bill Gravbeal. Glen Aldrich and
party left Sunday for a 10-day hunt
ing trip.

Mr. and Mrs. Bert Dexter, Mr.
Knighten and son were all Hermis
ton visitors Saturday.
Born, to Mr. and Mrs. Cornett
Green at the maternity home of Mrs.
P. A. Mollahan in this city Sunday,
a 10-pound son, named Stephen
William.
Big Mass Meeting
Slated for Snell -
Portland, Oct 19 One of the larg
est public receptions ever held in
Portland is scheduled for the after
noon of October 24, from 2 to 5, p.
m. in the Multnomah hotel, when
friends from all walks of life and
all party affiliations gather to honor
Secretary of State Earl Snell, the
republican candidate to succeed
himself.
The reception was planned by
more than 2500 women in Multno
mah county who are friendly to
Snell's candidacy. In the receiving
line will be Mr. and Mrs. Snell, Mr.
and Mrs. Jerry S. Sayler and Mrs.
Charles E. Runyon, Republican na
tional committeewoman.
Refreshments are planned and a
musical program arranged. No spec
ial invitations have been issued, the
reception being open to all friends.
