For a Bigger Parade
BUSINESS and professional men
of Heppner contributed nicely
this week to the parade prize fund,
assuring liberal cash awards for
many types of entries in the big
feature of Rodeo on Saturday, the
: 27th.
Those sponsoring the solicitation of
funds had in mind raising an amount
sutficient to fairly well repay those
, from outside the city for their ef
forts in putting entries into the pa
rade, and especially to give the kid
dies compensation for their part.
That this spirit is being carried out
is evidenced by announcement that
every child with an entry in the pa
rade will receive ' some cash com
pensation. But the action of business men is
only a starter toward making this
enjoyable Rodeo event one in which
the entire county will take pride. It
remains for the people of the county
to do their part. There is opportunity
for everyone to participate.
It is hoped to make a large show
ing of horses and such relics of the
Old West as may be available. Horse
drawn vehicles of ancient vintage
are desired. Outmoded farm ma
chinery may well play a part. Cos
tumes and household relics remin
iscent of pioneer days will add color
and background. Pets of all kinds
should be shown, and those who have
fancy livestock will find this an ex
ceptional opportunity to present it to
public view. Again, the floats pro
vide opportunity for aesthetic an
peal, for encouraging the spirit of
progress, so realistically enacted by
pioneer forebears. Very little trou-
U1- I . . . .
uie ana expense is involved in
adorning automobiles.
Those early day pioneers, too, are
encouraged to ride in the parade
that the succeeding generations may
see the people thmselves who laid
the foundation for' the substantial
civilization which we now enjoy.

tained in many instances, however,
and some of the prized pictures
shown were of gardens, lakes, cloud
and mountain scenes in the Canad

through dense smoke clouds by use
of infra-red films, while others tak

due to under-exposure.
Most of the Mexican scenes de

the Yucatan peninsula, showing py

are being rebuilt in original form by
Carnegie foundation. In many of the
pictures members of the home party
were included "just to prove that I
had really been there," as Miss
Leibbrand put it.
