Page Six HARDMAN NEWS Clary Children Heard in Broadcast By OPAL HASTINGS Several persons listened in when "Cinderella" was broadcast on Fri day and could easily recognize Irl Clary's voice but found that the city or the director's instructions had had quite an effect upon Mildred. On the Wednesday of the previous week Irl had spoken briefly on the Trail Blazers program and sounded very natural. Miss Delsie Bleakman, Mrs. Ber nard Bleakman, Buster Bleakman and Raymond Reid motored to Hood River Saturday. Delsie Bleakman will visit at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Redding for about a week. The others returned to Hardman Sunday evening. After her visit at H004 River Delsie will go on to Portland and spend about a week with Mr. and Mrs. Murrel Bennett, then she will go on to visit for a month or two with Mr. and Mrs. James McDonald who have a farm near Salem. Chester Saling of Prairie City was visiting with old friends here one day last week. Yvonne Hastings and Cecil McDan iel are improving since their ton silectomies. They were taken to Pen dleton last week. Bernard Bleakman and Ed Mc Daniel were in Prairie City several days last week. Miss Delsie Bleakman and Miss Murl Farrens shopped in Heppner Wednesday. Miss Mary Stanton who has been visiting friends and relatives here for about two months returned to her home in Walla Walla Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Robinson took two truck loads of cattle through here Sunday to the Lawrence Red ding ranch. He purchased them. Mrs. Owen Leathers and Junior went back to Red Hill guard sta tion Tuesday after a few days here at home. Glenn Merritt took them out Marvin Saddler spent Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Bat ty. He is working for John Berg strom. Miss Alene Inskeep has gone to Delsie Chapel's for a time. She may stay until after harvest. A. D. Inskeep and Oscel Inskeep took Miss Frances Inskeep to The Dalles Sunday where she had an operation for appendicitis the same evening. She is getting along fine. Marvin Saddler took John Berg strom's sheep to the ranch Saturday. Those from here who attended the dance at Rhea Creek Saturday night were Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Robison, Mr. and Mrs. Neal Knighten, Vera and Vera McDaniel, Rita, Creston and Donald Robinson, Marvin Sad dler, Creth Craber, Darrel Harris, Leon Chapin, Delvin McDaniel, Dal' las McDaniel. Murl and Darrel Far rens, Glenn Merritt and Ed McDan iel. A picnic was held at French's place Sunday. It was a birthday sur prise for Mrs. Blaine Chapel. Her sisters, Mrs. Jim Burnside, Mrs. Harvey Harshman, Mrs. Lorena Is om and Mrs. Walter Farrens and their families and friends attended. Those from Hardman who were present were Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Adams and daughters, Clara Belle, Nancy and Betty, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Adams and son Vonnie, Mr. and Mrs. Duff McKitrick and son Roger, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Burnside, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Burnside and daughters and Mrs. G. I. Clary. The Misses Ollie and Lilly Hast ings are spending a few days at their father's sheep camp in the moun tains. PINE CITY NEWS Bartholomew Clan Reunites at Portland By BERNICE WATTENBURGER Miss Shirley Jarmon and Misses Patty and Betty Finch left Thursday for Portland for the week end and attended a family reunion of the Bartholomews. Mrs. C. H. Bartholo mew and Miss Frances Finch went down Saturday. Ray Myers returned home Satur day from a two weeks' stay in the mountains with Bert Barnes. Jim Cross of Irrigon wired the Struthers house Monday. A part of Butter creek got in on Heppner the heavy wind and rain storm last Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wigglesworth and family of Echo were Sunday dinner guests at the E. B. Watten- burger home. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Neill arid son. Guy Moore, and Mr. and Mrs. Dee Neill are in the mountains cutting their winter wood. Mr. and Mrs. Emery Cox and fam ily of Hermiston were Monday call ers at the E. B. Wattenburger and H. E. Young homes. Mrs. David Brown Dies in California Turlock, Cal., July 22 Funeral services for Mrs. Edna Alene Brown, 55, wife of David Brown of the Tur lock district, will be held on July 26 at Turlock cemetery. Mrs. Brown passed away this evening after a long illness. Mrs. Brown was born in Echo, Or egon, and until March of 1919 lived in the Blackhorse canyon district and various other localities in the north west In 1919 she moved with her family to Morton, Idaho, where she lived for approximately three years, moving to California in 1922. She had lived in the Turlock district for five years. Besides her husband, David Brown, she leaves two sons, Carlton C. Brown of Winton, Cal., and B. Richard Brown of Los Angeles; two daughters, Elizabeth M. and Alice J. Brown of Turlock, and three grand children. Mrs. Brown was the granddaugh ter of Mrs. Rachel Towers, who at one time ran a hotel in Lexington and also in Echo, and who cared for her until she was 7 years old, at which time she moved to north western Washington where she spent her early girlhood until she re turned to Pendleton where she spent her high school years. Mr. and Mrs. Brown farmed in the Blackhorse district for approx imately 15 years.
