Thursday, June 23, 1938 Heppner Gazette Times, Heppner, Oregon Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Crawford, daughter Miss Jane Crawford and sons Raymond and Arthur arrived Sunday evening from their home at San Rafael, Cal., to visit for a week with relatives and friends. Mr. Craw ford holds the position of associate editor with Underwriters Report, an insurance publication produced in San Francisco- They drove north by way of the Pacific highway, the Weed cut-off to Klamath Falls, The Dalles-California, Ochoco and Hepp-ner-Spray highways, and found ev idence of heavy showers all along the route. Miss Ruth Green and brother Joe Green drove to Eugene Sunday where Miss Green expected to enter University of Oregon summer school. For some time before leaving Miss Green conducted a research on the early history of Heppner for inclu sion in an article to be read over KOAC, college radio station, in con nection with a program citing his tories of various towns of the state. Mayor and Mrs. Cecil L. (Buck) Lieuallen of Pendleton were calling in the city yesterday with Mrs. Lieu allen's father, Jack Hynd, coming up from the Hynd ranch where Mr. Lieuallen and family had been over night guests Tuesday. They were re turning to the Round-Up city. Eddie Robbins, who will join the University of Oregon law teaching staff the coming year and who is the son of a law professor at Harvard university, was here this week vis iting Francis Nickerson and together they went to the Nickerson farm near Ukiah for an outing. J. G. Barratt, son Bill and John Crawford left yesterday evening in the Barratt car for the Barratt sum mer sheep range in Montana. Mr. Barratt took the boys along to see some of the beautiful scenery in the Glacier National park section where the sheep graze. Mrs. Lucy E. Rodgers and Mrs. R. C. Young departed today for The Dalles where they joined Rev. Mr. Young in representing the local church in the annual conference of Methodist churches. Mrs. Rodgers is attending as a lay delegate from the local church. Charles B. Cox returned home Tuesday evening from a trip to Portland where he joined Mrs. Cox. Together they visited at Newberg with Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Morton, former neighbors here. Mrs. Cox re mained in Portland for the rest of the week. Mr. and Mrs. William Bennett and Billy expect to leave for Portland tomorrow where Mr. Bennett will attend a Smith-Hughes conference for a week. Mrs. Bennett expected to go on to Seattle to spend a couple of months. Alva Jones motored to Portland Tuesday and expected to return yes terday evening with Mrs. Jones who has been visiting for several weeks in Portland at the home of her sis ter, Mrs. W. V. Crawford. T. J. Humphreys arrived home this morning from a three-weeks' triD on which he visited with his daughter, Miss Evelyn Humphreys, at San Francisco and with relatives in the Willamette valley. Mr. and Mrs. Claude Graham re turned home this week from a va cation trip. Going first to Portland they were joined by Miss Bess Hud dleston who accompanied them on to Seattle. Mrs. Olive B. Bassett of Sacra mento, Cal., arrived this week to spend the summer at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Joe Hughes, and family at the Willow creek farm home. Mr. and Mrs. Vernor Sackett have been spending the week here from their home at Salem attending to business in connection with the es , tate of the late S. E. Notson. J. G. Barratt returned Saturday evening from a business trip to Portland. Walter E. Moore, manager Pendle ton Production Credit association, was a business visitor in the city Sat urday afternoon and enjoyed greet ing old-time friends. Alvin Lass, who has been working at the farm of Mrs. Lucv O'Brien. underwent a major operation at Heppner hospital Monday. Mrs. Virginia Hesseltine arrived Tuesday from her home at Walla Walla to visit with her son, Clar ence Hesseltine. James Pointer Christian minister at Lexington and lone, was a vis itor in the city yesterday afternoon. Born, to Mr. and Mrs. George E. Miller of Morgan at Heppner hos pital Monday, a 9-pound boy. Alex Cornett suffered a heart at tack Monday and is being cared for at the James Furlong home.
