Come, bring your basket and enjoy games and a good social time. , Lexington grange hall is receiving a coat of paint this week. Initiative petition for Peoples' Util ity District Revenue Certificate Is suance Without Voters' authoriza tion billis being circulated this week. Also an initiative petition for One House Legislature and other consti tutional amendments relating to leg islation. These measures are initiat ed by the Oregon State grange. PECK At the annual school meeting held Monday, Ralph Jackson was elected director for a term of three years and Mrs. Ruth Lasich was reelected as clerk for one year. Dr. and Mrs. L. P. Purkey and daughter of Portland were dinner guests at the John Pieper home on Sunday. Dr. Purkey had his prac tice in Heppner some years ago. This was his first visit to Morrow county in six years. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Cutler motored to Athena Sunday. They were ac companied home by Mrs. Cutler's brother, Duane Payne. Dinner guests at the Barnett home Sunday were Mrs. Julia Cypert and T. L. Barnett. , Mr. and Mrs. James Leach mo tored to Walla Walla Sunday where they met Miss Opal Leach of Minne apolis, Minn,, who will spend the summer in this community. Kenneth Smouse left Sunday for Corvallis to spend the week on bus iness. Mrs. G. J. Ryan and two children have returned home from Oregon City where they spent the past two weeks. Chas. Breshears has been confined to his home for several days because of illness. Elmer Hunt, S. G. McMillan and Arthur Hunt motored to Pendleton Tuesday. , Mr. and Mrs. Bradley Castle (nee Edith Tucker) returned Saturday from Virginia to spend the summer here. Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Parker and daughter Marjorie of Heppner and Mr. and Mrs. Onez Parker of Ev erett were visiting at the W. F. Bar nett home Sunday. Mrs. Emma Peck entertained the Three Links club at her home Tues day afternoon. The meeting was held on the lawn and delicious refresh' ments were served to the following guests. BOARDMAN NEWS Bleakney Reelected On Board man Board My LA VERN BAKER Echool election was held June 20 to elect the school clerk and a di rector and pass on the budget. Those elected were George Wicklander, Sr., for clerk and Neil Bleakney, re elected for director. The missionary meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Deulin Wednes day afternoon with a good attend ance. The ladies decided to put a quilt in the quilting frames at the church and then the women could come in and quilt on it whenever they wished to. The sewing and cooking 4-H clubs met at the Deulin home on Thursday afternoon. The leaders are Mrs. Dil lon and Mrs. Bleakney respectively. The vacation Bible school, which is being held at the community church is progressing very well. It started last Tuesday and will run Heppner for two weeks. The enrollment is about fifty, including the five teach ers. Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Hug were business visitors in Hermiston Sat urday. Roy Ball and Robert Wilson mo tored to Hermiston on business Sat urday. ' Visitors at the Blanche Jones home Sunday were Mrs. Day and children of La Grande, Mr. and Mrs. Phil Jones and family of Hermiston, Miss Esther Jones and Mrs. Nagaret Jones and son of La Grande, and Mr. and Mrs. Tom Lelano and son. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Baker of Cove have moved here to look after the Al Guise farm. Mr. and Mrs. Guise are leaving Tuesday for Mt. Harris where Mr. Guise will be a fire look out man for the summer. Essie Jones returned home this week after working at Tom's camp the past year. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Stevens of Hermiston visited on the project Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Peck are va cationing in Wallowa this week. Lois and Lowine Comstock, Vir ginia Ruder. Burr Clark, Murton Ousbern, all of Baker, visited at the A. R. Parson home over Sunday. E. Ghomley of the Pendleton Woolen mills was on the project this week. John Yonger and Bob McCutcheon left this week for Athena where they will work. Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Barlow and Miss Norma Gibbons motored to Eugene where Miss Gibbons will attend school and the Barlows will visit their son and his family. George Russell motored with them as far as Hood River. Miss Phyllis Studdie is visiting her gradparents, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Fa- ler, this week. Miss Eleanore Skoubo returned home from Corvallis where she at tended the 4-H club summer school. Eldon Shannon spent the week end in Boardman. Mr. Shannon is now in Pilot Rock working on the oiling crew. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Bunten of La Grande visited Mrs. Bunten's moth er and brother, Mrs. Chapman and son, on the project over the week end. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Harwood mo tored to Pendleton Sunday to at tend the circus. Jack Rodgers and Bud Hendrick attended the circus in Pendleton Sunday. Information Arrives on Wheat Loan Eligibility Wheat growers whose total acre age of soil depleting crops for 1938 does not exceed 105 per cent of their soil depleting acreage allotment will be eligible for loans under the ever normal granary plan, according to information just received from Washington by the state AAA of fice at Oregon State college. While details regarding amount, terms and conditions of the pro posed loans have not been fully de veloped, it has been definitely an nounced that Joans will be available this year because of the low farm price on June 15 and the high esti mated crop this year. To qualify for loans, the wheat must be stored either in federally licensed or approved warehouses, or in eligible storage on farms in cer tain states. Oregon is included among the states where farm stor age will be permitted. A leaflet ex plaining the requirements which farm storage must meet is now be ing prepared. Grades of wheat which will be eligible for loans have been speci fied and in general mean that winter wheat grading No. 3 or better and spring wheat grading No. 2 or bet ter will be eligible. Details of these requirements will be in the hands of all county committees in the near future. Ted and Billy Thomson are spend ing the summer in Heppner with their mother, Mrs. A. Q. Thomson. Mrs. Faye Finch was reelected clerk for one year and Russell Moore director for a three year term. It was voted upon to keep the high school at Pine City for the coming year, and also voted to hire a second high school teacher and put the school back to standard. Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Bartholomew spent the week end at home from Spokane. They returned Monday night to look after sheep interests. Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Ayers and family, Mr. and Mrs. Marion Finch and family, Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Young and family, Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Wattenburger and family, all of Pine City, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Strain of Pilot Rock, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Van Orsdall of Pendleton, all spent Sunday on a picnic and getting their canning cherries at Pasco, Wash. Miss Barbara Buseick returned home Monday to Long Creek. She had been visiting her grandparents a week while her parents were in Portland. Frank Ayers of Hermiston was visiting on the creek Monday. The fine rain over the week end was enjoyed by all. It will save a good many acres of new alfalfa. Mr. and Mrs. Barton Clark of Rhea creek spent Monday afternoon, at the Pine City school meeting. Mr. Clark was principal of the Pine City school last year. RHEA CREEK-EIGHT MILE The dance at Rhea creek was well attended Saturday night, although it was plenty muddy. Mrs. Chas. Becket returned home Tuesday from Fossil after visiting several days at the home of her par ents and other relatives. Velma Huston returned to Bel lingham on Sunday to resume her studies there. A daughter, Laurel K., arrived at the home of R. D. Allstott on June 16th. Genia Huston and Hannah Ander son attended the Three Links club at the home of Emma Peck near Lexington. Kathleen Furlong is here visiting at the home of her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Brown. Miss Furlong's home is in Portland. Oregon 9
